Good Root Beer but a slight bit too much licorice.

Look - Nice dark color with nice level of carbonation
Smell - Birch, Licorice and vanilla notes
Taste - licorice with a smooth Vanilla finish
Feel - Medium body
Overall - Well Done - nice balance of licorice and vanilla, with a cream smooth finish

I prefer this over Not Your Fathers, not as syrupy and does not leave the nasty after taste that not your fathers does. l

Really makes me appreciate NYFRB, which this falls far below. This pours opaque, black in color, with minimal head. Smell is ok, kinda of like artificial sweetener. Taste is odd. Alcohol and root beer mix at first, some birch beer, and a really offputting medicinal/gluey aftertaste. Tastes nothing like beer, but not really much like soda either. Even iced down, I could not finish this. For me a huge pass.

Poured from 16oz tall can into a dimpled mug.

Appearance: very dark brown with ruby highlights. Head is a thin layer of fizzy brown foam. Not too bad; reminds me of kvass.

Smell: extremely root-beer-ey; it smells exactly like root beer barrels and nothing like beer. Right on target, if not especially beer-like.

Taste: sweet root beer flavor. I'm torn, because I like root beer, but damn if this is nothing like actual beer. Still, for what they are going for, quite spot-on.

Mouthfeel: light body with a very fizzy texture. For a beer, uninspiring.

Overall: not really very much of a beer, but a very tasty and drinkable beverage in any other context.

Bottle. Pours a dark, clear brown. Aroma is of sweet root beer with a hint of booze. Not as well put together as the Small Town Brewery's version. The flavor is not meant for me. It's very sweet. Reminiscent of root beer but also eerily different. There is too much heat for the ABV. I did not enjoy this. I doubt I will appreciate any of this type of "beer". Each one I try I dislike them more and more.

Holy shit, hard root beer is becoming a thing? Thanks, NYFRB!! The aroma is...well, it's a root beer. Having said that, it seems less sweet than Not Your Father's Sugar Bomb. Also, I do get gentle hints of birch beer in this one. Tasting this, I get a HUGE amount of vanilla - just like root beer, amirite? Actually, I get a little bit of alcohol as well - this tastes boozier than the 5.8% would suggest (and that's not good). I'd even suggest (blindfolded) it might have been aged in bourbon barrels. Otherwise, it finishes...like soda, really. That means lots of carbonation and lots of teeth-rotting sweetness, but hey, that's style appropriate. One feature I like over Not Your Father's Artificially Flavored Soda is that this doesn't taste quite as 'artificial', whatever that means. It's hard to call this a beer (impossible, actually), but it fills that 'hard craft soda' niche pretty well. I think I liked Not Your Father's Cavity better, though.

Wayyyy better than the rest. Like cotton candy infused root beer. No long review here kids. Have the last of the bunch. And I'm drunk so blow me down.

Look - Pours a pitch and non penetrable black with a two finger slightly off white head that sticks aroujd. Carbonation and lacing is not a factor.

Smell - Sweet cotton candy and root beer. Sassafras and a touch of alcohol. Sweet. In a good way.

Taste - That cotton candy realllyyyy dominates the taste profile. DOMINATES. Sassafrass roots and vanilla as well

Feel - Easy drinking as can possibly be. Low carbonation and a moderate mouthfeel.

Overall - It is the best of the bunch. Easily. Not painfully sweet and doesn't leave you in a diabetic coma like Not Your Trailer Park Whores Root Beer

I once had a friend who mixed root beer and Jager, this kind of reminded me of that, which at least for me is not a good thing. You can tell it's a rushed attempt to join the rising popularity of a certain other brand. Looks like a root beer with a weaker head. Taste is too sweet and has more licorice than any other root beer I've had. Aftertaste is slightly medicinal and alcoholic. Best drank from the bottle unless you want annoyingly sticky lips.

I think this takes the the #1 spot from NYFRB. At least for me. More carbonation an vanilla with less anise. It is not as cloyingly sweet as NYFRB either. Pretty Damn Good.

I enjoyed this bottle chilled in a mug

The color is dark brown like root beer with a quick dropping head without lace or retention, but is visibly carbonated. The smell is kind of like dark caramel in the way kettle corn is sweet smelling yet still resembles root beer with woody aroma and light vanilla extract. The feel has a woody sweetness with medium high carbonation and slightly thick body with sweetness into the finish with mild alcohol in the background.

The flavor has a good amount of caramel sweetness with a soft drink essence and light woody and licorice-like earthy flavor that fades into a slightly sweet spicy and mildly alcohol aspect as it finishes. Overall the taste improves as the carbonation relaxes and the spice taste comes forward for my palate-this is the best of the three hard root beers I have tried still comes off as a malternative or schnapps 'hard root beer' is one and done drink-wise unless you share with your wife but it is great when mixed with bourbon

Had this one today for the first time, side by side with NYFRB. Poured from bottle to snifter cause I'm fancy. Hate to review a beer in comparison with another one, but hard root beer's the fad right now and these two are the big names around here. The aroma to this one is more true to fresh-brewed root beer than NYFRB, really excellent. The taste, however, is where it suffers a bit. There's a boozy vanilla extract bite right upfront before it settles into a smooth root beer experience. There's no mistake that this one has alcohol in it, as opposed to NYFRB, where the alcohol is well hidden. On the other hand, this one withstood some warming better, as it was pretty hot out today and I'm much more of a sipper than a quaffer.

look: Well, it looks like a root beer with maybe a bit more head.
smell: It smells like a root beer. It smells very good no doubt, a bit on the sweet and a tad overdone with pretty heavy licorice and vanilla.
taste: It tastes like root a beer.
overall: I like it. I'll drink one of these at a time and probably not on back to back days, but it's refreshing, and tasty.

- shaker pint. best by 12/15. consumed 09/15.

A: Very active bubbly head, macro bubbles and fizzy audible, that dissipates out just as quickly. Dark opaque coloring. Looks like a rootbeer soda.

S: Sweet aroma of rootbeer, sassafras, really smells like a stewart's old time rootbeer. Nice strength, good duration. Rating as a rootbeer style beer? Really sweet soda syrup, rootbeer flavor, some yeasty alcohol tones, belgian bread and grains aftertaste. Golden spicy hops, caramel-cream, sasafras-honey sweetness, light alcohol with hints of vanilla.

M: Spritzy carbonation, soda like in texture and feel, lightly syrupy.

O: Tastes like a sweet rootbeer with the exception of the finish which showed signs of some belgian yeasty bread and alcohol with a sweet honey tang. Not sure how to rate, overyly sweet for multiples, a basic novelty beer, decent for a try, but doesn't drink like a beer, which could be dangerous.

I'm not sure why the ratings are so low on this and so high on Not Your Father's Root Beer... this has everything that does, without the weird chemical aftertaste. Great stuff, but due to the sweetness it's hard to drink more than a bottle.

2/29...pours dark cola brown, soda like fizz (shocker), no foam. Root beer/birch nose. Sharp. Vanilla, licorice too. Root beer sweet flavor with a ball of alcohol in the back end mouthfeel. Like someone dropped whiskey in my A&W. Interesting, but sticky sweet. Not something I'd go back towards. One = done.
