Very Good
Notes: Bringing together the strong malt backbone of traditional East Coast IPAs, the clean hop bitterness of West Coast IPAs, and the hazy, intensely fruity hop character of New England IPAs, we have created an IPA that stands alone. Thrill your tastebuds with Coney Island Merman IPA, our very own New York IPA.

Good beer. Very drinkable and smooth with a happy overlay. Strong for a lighter IPA

Had this at Smoke, jazz club on the Upper West Side of NYC, 12.07.19. 10 oz pour draft.

Not a bad looking beer, clear with white head that left nice artful lacing as I drank it. I tried to get a sniff when taking my first sip, wasn't great. I couldn't figure out if this beer had been sitting around in bottles or cans for too long, but then I realized it was draft. Sorry to say, this beer just didn't work for me, it just tasted lousy.

Gold/orange color. Can with BB date of Jan/2020. So I don't believe it's too fresh. No carbonation and a small white head. Looks thick in the glass. Nose is orange sweetness, sweet malts, apricot marmalade, hops. some pine and a trace of ripe papaya and mango. Taste is similar. Not too much in the area of dankness or bitterness, however. Medium mouthfeel and it goes down smooth. Clean crisp finish, not too dry and not overly wet or oily. All in all, this was quite good and very easy drinking. Good gateway beer for the stye. Nothing offensive about it.

Really nice caramel up front, which fades into a pleasant grapefruit bitterness.

12 oz can poured into a shaker.

Appearance
Hazy golden orange. Short creamy white head.

Nose
Grapefruit, peach, pine, dank, and candied orange.

Taste
Grapefruit, pine needle, and overripe papaya. Light caramel and candy sugar backbone. Finishes with earth, resin, and grapefruit pith.

Mouthfeel
Medium-light bodied, crisp, and lightly bitter.

Overall
An easy drinking and approachable IPA that may find success with mainstream consumers but will ultimately get lost in the ether.

(Draft) Cloudy light golden color, apparent IPA bitterness balanced with subtle sweetness which makes it easier to order the next pint! Great head & lacing on the glass. Balanced citrus, creamy maiz flavors really fills the palate... Great beer to set you up for your next bite of your crab cake!!!

One notch higher than other BAs, pleased to be the 7th Review of Merman which is flavorful, session IPA at 5.8%.
Got that long island thing going on. (A bit of all coasts)
a) Pours hazed dark golden, amber-brownish body making a lasting head and lace.
s) Dank hops w some grapefruit and pine.
t) Ample flavors balanced across multiple dimensions, leaning lightly toward English IPA.
f) Full bodied, creamy with ample carbonation.
o) Taste blind against any 5 and change IPA.

Merman NY IPA (Coney Island) draft was tasted at a late lunch at a Long Island bar during the Government shutdown. (I was greeted by a furloughed acquaintance at the bar.) Merman IPA was served in a chilled glass. The beer was slightly cloudy and exhibited a longlasting creamy head. The over-chilled beer didn't emit much of an aroma. The flavor was fairly typical of modern IPAs, possibly with a less than normal assertive hop flavor. It's a pretty good product of a Boston Beer subsidiary, but nothing outstanding.

Tapped at overlook bar on east 44th street in Manhattan.

An east coast ipa meets a slight west coast style in a pint glass.

Wish this beer was as memorable as the old east coast vs west coast rap wars.

It's no Biggie Smalls. It's no Tupac Shakur. It's a straight up 3 and a hey.

Look: Fair skinned mermaid with a slightly above skinny-fat body and a culturally appropriated pacific island tattoo sleeve.

Smell: Smells like beer air.

Taste: I like the idea of blending multiple styles to create a unique Indian pale ale. Very hip. But I believe there were one too many coasts involved in this concoction. They all cancelled one another out. @BrewMaven got it right when he picked up on the Cymbopogon. That was definitely lingering on my tongue on the back end. Mostly tastes like nothing. Kinda wet.

Feel: It felt good.

Overall: Overall this beer is nice for a December night but would probably be terrible in August. Next time I might get this. I don't know why.

**Edit

Just drank a few more and boy am I feeling it. This beer actually got progressively better as I drank a few more, but then got even worse after about 3 or so. I don't know if I got tired of it, or if I'm just so drunk that I don't know what good beer is. After drinking about 5 of them, I'm never getting them again and I know why. Prob cause they taste like toddler shit. Not changing the rating though. Actually I'll make it a 4 point something. Pretty impressive that I drank twelve beers and I'm not even drunk yet. Only peed once too. I'll make a second edit if I find anything else. Thanks guys!
