Black and smooth, and without the heavy bready/sourness usually found in rye beers. Black with tiny beige head, nice roast grain bitterness, Really surprising and really good.

Picked this up at the brewery a couple weeks ago.. Finally getting around to enjoying it tonight... Pours a jet black with a 1" light brown head... drops fairly quickly leaving decent lacing.
Nose is okay... lite chocolate... something that reminds me of buckwheat... do they use a kilned rye? Pretty clean in the yeast department, no real esters.. just a lighter than expected malt profile.
Flavor has a bit more of a "rye" presence, but it could just be positive suggestion from the label... still the malt profile is lighter than expected... I think all of CF's dark beers could benefit from a bigger body and more residual maltiness... tasty, but flimsy.. Blindfolded, there is little on the palate that would make me think this was any kind of stout... let alone a 7.2% stout.
