Drinkable but not impressive. I would be happy to share a pint of the local (Ottawa) brew which is more exciting than many mainstream beers. This said, it was fairly uninspiring. More malty then hoppy, with a medium to low carbonation and nothing notable on the nose or finish.

Purchased at the LCBO for around $2.50 for a 473ml can. Served at 4deg C in a draught glass.

A- Opens well and pours a tiny head that is gone in seconds. Rather dark gold almost light brown color. Clear

S- Lemon, malt and hops. The citrus hints are fantastic

T- Nice but not for me. Too much malt for me. Hits' you in the face

M- Dry. Not very creamy

O- Ok but not great. Nice break from the every day

Food Pairing

This ok beer went well with...... Kimchi a nice homemade kimchi or pickled cabbage recipe from South Korea. This beer cuts through that spicy goodness.

Enjoy

Can: Poured a clear amber color ale with a medium foamy head with OK retention and minimal lacing. Aroma of dry caramelized malt with light grainy notes is not the most interesting. Taste is also dominated by caramelized malt with grainy notes. Body is about average with OK carbonation. Boring amber ale that I can’t’ really say I would wish to drink again.

Tallboy can picked up at the LCBO; listed at an even 5% and packaged Jan 8 2015. I recall trying this particular beer at a festival last year, but only recently have I begun seeing this Broadhead product being sold in stores. Served slightly chilled.

Pours a clear, effervescent amber-orange colour, topped off with one finger of soapy, eggshell white-coloured head. It recedes slowly but steadily over the next five minutes or so, eventually leaving behind a thin cap and collar, with minimal lace. The aroma is relatively straightforward - lightly toasted bready malts, caramel sweetness, and a noticeable presence of dirty, leafy hops. Nothing atypical for an amber ale, at least so far.

I rather enjoy the flavour of this one; it has a very nice balance. Toasted malts, caramel and brown sugar form the backbone, with a touch of grainy sweetness. The hops that come forward in the tail end act as a nice counterpoint, providing some grassy, tea-leafy bitterness with just the slightest hint of citrus. Finishes with a dirty, leafy bittersweet flavour, almost reminiscent of an English bitter. Light-bodied, with assertive carbonation levels that result in a crisp, refreshing feel on the palate. Very easy to drink, which is a definitely plus in this style.

Final Grade: 3.76, a B+. Broadhead's Grindstone Amber probably won't turn too many heads, but it is still a perfectly serviceable, sessionable ale. Ambers are not exactly one of my favourite styles, but this particular amber has just the right amount of sweetness for my tastes, as well as an enjoyable, restrained bitterness that ties the flavour profile up nicely. It's not an exceptional beer, but it's certainly a worthwhile one that I could see myself purchasing again.

As a lover of amber ales I find this one not really what I expect but I really like it. The only issue I have is almost no lace.

473 ml can of this new offering purchased from LCBO for about $2.80 CDN. Served cold into a pint glass.

Appearance - bright clear orange and amber with a finger of white head. Poor retention, but makes up for it with a bunch of lively looking bubbles.

Smell - fairly bold grainy aroma with just a bit of a floral undertone. Nice balanced amber ale aroma.

Taste - starts fairly sweet and corn like, with a bunch of caramel mixed in for good measure before turning a bit more herbal and bitter.

Mouthfeel - smooth and creamy with a modest body and slightly dry finish.

Overall - a pretty decent if not an outstanding amber ale. Definitely worth a shot.

Here we go again with a catch all style, I am one hundred percent rating this on what I think of flavor aroma and feel because the Amber ale style is too broad!

Appearance - This beer pours a magnificent clear medium amber color with 3.5 fingers of off white head that fades a lot but leaves a pretty decent bit of foam over the top of the beer. This is a fine looking amber ale.

Aroma - Some lemon up front followed by some nice roasted grains and caramel malt. hops are florally and clean . very nice all around!

Taste - its very light but at the same time extremely malty I get roasted nuts, caramel malts, some grainy malts, yet still manages to finish dry. This isnt really my favorite flavor combo in an amber ale.

Feel - Light and watery slightly prickly carbonation nice and refreshing feel.

overall - Its a decent amber ale but Would I buy it again probably not. First of all amber ales arn't really my favorite style so decent ones arnt catching my attention great ones are. Try it out one time if you do like them. as it may be fore you!
