A perfect bit of Britain in Albany! Stunning atmosphere, the best fish n chips I've ever had. A huge selection of UK beers.

A: The Olde English Pub & Pantry is a beautifully remodeled centuries old brick building, located in historic Quackenbush Square. The interior is low-key, with dark wood and dim light. A very comfortable space.

Q: Everything about the place is nice without being over the top. There are no real complaints other than the less than traditional food options and the oddly shaped mug glassware.

S: Service is prompt and I've never had a complaint.

S: The beer selection is pretty decent with a lineup of standard commercial English offerings, along with a few American IPAs (Sculpin and Union Jack last time I visited) and generally two cask beers. The cask offerings are nice, typically one is from a local brewery and one from a larger brewery (love when they put on Wandering Star Mild at Heart).

F: The food is solid, though the menu is small. I've never had a bad meal here, but also never had anything that begged coming back for.

The Olde English is an not a proper English pub, and selection-wise it's not on the level that Mahar's once was, but it's a fun place to relax and grab a few drinks and is definitely worth a visit.

stopped in here later on a Friday night for a couple of beers.

Located against the highway overpasses, but in the historic Quakenbush House built in 1730s, which may be the oldest building in Albany. If you're a fan of English style pubs, you'll love this place. Old building, stone, wood, no TV's, cask beer. Walls are decorated with vintage English centric pictures, posters, etc.

The small bar is right when you enter, with some tables in the rear and upstairs. The bar features English beers served in 20 oz mugs. Mostly Pale Ale, ESB, Porter from Fullers, Belhaven, Young's, Harviestoun's, etc. They had two beers on cask. Nothing to complain about the service, the bartender was quick to ask for our selection.

We didn't have any food, so can't comment on that. Prices were fine, but be aware it's cash only.
