Poured from the bottle into a nonic pint glass.

Deep dark walnut black, quite dark surprisingly with just a tinge of clarity up towards the head. Head creation is about average with a little cascading effect, but manages relatively dark espresso to mocha brown color. Slightly creamy head, a little bit of retention, but eventually dissolves to a thick collar and thin puck.

Clean sensing malts and mineral like quality on the nose. A light simple body with a touch of faint roast. Forgoes large lactose sweetness for more of an English ale (maybe?) yeast berry like ester. Clean almost dry grain but not too flour like but getting there.

Woah what is going on here. This is a reminder of why I don't care for these. While a decent malt feel seems to be present the taste is pure rock candy and soda. First sips at first give a little touch of sweetness then it goes overboard in the mid palate. Sweet cola, not even a touch of vanilla, cream, milk, anything. A half decent if somewhat wet texture, and there's a faint touch of mineral and roast quality on the aftertaste. Strangely not even sensing any sweet malt character qualities to this, it just flat out tastes like soda.

Trix is for kids, and even for a milker, or sweet stout this is far too sweet for my tastes.

Have been trying to locate this one for awhile, as it's brewed by Carib, the most recent caretaker of my all-time fav, Mackeson XXX Stout. Interesting to note the number of reviews extolling the virtues of this beer's head, while others have complained the head is lacking. (Could be a QC or freshness issue I suppose.) I'd probably fall into the latter camp, as I didn't experience any real head or lacing either.

Nevertheless, this was actually a fun beer to drink and not at all unlike Mackenson in fact. Very sweet of course: cola like. I would guess that this has a slightly lower IBU as compared to Mackeson, but calling them "siblings" wouldn't be a stretch. I think head-to-head, I prefer Mac's more developed roast and slight closing bitterness over "the Lion's," but if I couldn't find Mac or one of my other "darker favs," I'd be happy to have this. Look forward to having a few more of these.

Not all bad. Just cannot stand up to bells, founders, or southern tier.

Interesting import from the Caribbean. Inexpensive and drinkable but not great. Liked it more than the similar but less flavorful Mackeson triple xxx stout but wouldn't buy this one again either.

Bottle purchased at Beers of the World in Rochester, NY.

This one pours a fairly dark brown, almost black, with a one inch fluffy head, and a little bit of lacing.

Smells like a sweet distaster- caramel, sugar, tropical fruit, chocolate, caramelized sugar, simple syrup, and root beer.

At first, the sweetness is overbearing, and off-putting, but eventually, it gets endearing. The taste reminds me of chocolate-covered mangos rolled in confectioners sugar. It's unbelievably sweet, and really does taste tropical. There's a lot of caramel, sweet vanilla cream, and an almost root beer/cola like taste.

This one is a very slow sipper, due to how intensely sweet it is. There's a lower level of carbonation, with a sugary mouthfeel.

This is one of the more unique stouts I've ever had. Really, really weird, but honestly, pretty good.
