The beer pours a candy apple red color with a thick frothy pink head that fades to lacing. The aroma is average. It has a cinnamon aroma that seems refreshing, but not beer-like. The taste is average also. It has a cinnamon bubble gum flavor that goes down like candy, because it is almost like candy. It does not resemble what anyone would consider beer. The mouthfeel is decent. It is a medium bodied brew with adequate carbonation. This is a good tasting drink. I'm just not sure it should be considered beer.

First I have to clarify what this beer is brewed with...BA just says red in parenthesis...little does anybody realized this is extreme beer we're dealing with. I see on the neck label and description a blend of lager beer with artificial sorrel flavour and artificially coloured. I had no clue what sorrel was, good thing this is artificial. Here's a few excerpts from wikipedia..."a flavour that is similar to kiwifruit or sour wild strawberries. The plant's sharp taste is due to oxalic acid, which is a poison. In small quantities sorrel is harmless; in large quantities it can be fatal". Either way sorrel is a green herb used in different foods throughout the world. Pours like a cherry soda, bright food coloring in the body with a fizzy pink pepto bismol slurry looking head. Carbonation dwindles quick and the brew smells of peppermint/candy cane with hints of anise. Definitely familiar notes that I've had or tasted somewhere before. This is the most fucked up beer I've ever tasted, it bites with the sorrel herbal/mint/peppermint flavor yet tastes like cherry soda. No alcohol evident, definitely could be drank by children/without parents detecting any loss of motor control. It kind of burns the palate with medicinal qualities, and it's sweetness levels will probably induce diabetes. Cane sugar sweetness that most of the islands use in their Coca Cola...this blend of lager/soda loses all signs of beer. This is island alcopop. Highly carbonated mild syrup texture going on in the body, this is a crazy experience. Drinkability overall, I'm going for it. Don't pour this one down just soak up the experience and know that it's weird as hell. Nothing I will ever elect myself to drink, but I want to try the ginger shandy now. It's like sucking on cinnamon toothpicks and drinking Cherokee Red soda as a kid.

330ml bottle. Called Carib Shandy Sorrel in shipments to the Great White North.

This beer pours a clear, quite bright pinkish-red colour, with one skinny finger of bubbly pink-dyed white head, which leaves a low wash of island landfall lace around the glass as it quickly fades away. Looks like Kool-Aid to me.

It smells of metallic cinnamon and nutmeg spice, very much like those cinnamon heart candies so prevalent around Valentine's Day, artificial sweetener, and maybe a hint of grainy, indistinct pale malt. The taste is very herbal, leafy, and cinnamon-adjacent in its almost over-bearing sweetness - again, I could be taken to believe that this is the liquid version of those weirdly hot seasonal candies I've already mentioned, but for an additional sugary character, one likely a mix of ethereal malt and yer average laboratory's man-made product, whose name ends in -ose.

The bubbles are pretty much inert, the body sickly pithy and saccharine in its scientific clones-bolstered medium weight, and smooth like yer typical car salesperson. It finishes, well, sweet, with a lingering sorrel (if that's what the herbal cinnamon character 'really' is) candied nature.

It's hard to rate this as a beer, since so little of that is perceptible (or actually even exists) here beyond the fake sorrel and sugar 'flavouring'. But that's what we do here, and this is not a good beer, much more of an alco-pop, sans the alcohol, of course.

A: The beer is crystal clear red in color and has a slight amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a quarter finger high dark pink head that died down, leaving some lacing on the surface and a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light aromas of licorice are present in the nose along with some hints of sweetness.
T: The taste very much follows the smell and has balanced flavors of sweetness and herbal spices from the sorrel.
M: It feels light-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer tastes like a liquid version of Big Red gum with a little more sweetness.

NOTE: I first posted this review under the regular, caramel colored Shandy, back when this Red Shandy hadn't been entered into the BA database:

Despite what it may seem like, I’m actually not reviewing the same beer twice, this is a different Carib Shandy from the one I just reviewed. That one was caramel colored and flavored with ginger, while the one I’m reviewing now is red (and no, not red like a nice Irish Red Ale, but candy-apple red). It appears to have a cinnamon flavor. Overall, it tastes exactly like soda, and nothing like beer, and just like the other Carib Shandy, it fails as a beer for that reason. But, I would say I like this one better the ginger flavored deal, if only by a little. Still, not recommended.

Pours a clear red color with no head. Smells like cherries and cinnamon, very sweet. Tastes the same, some cherries and cinnamon, really sugary with a small terrible spice behind it. It was basically cherry cough syrup. Carbonation in the mouth, just could drink this one, didn't finish one.

Served in a Dogfish Head shaped pint glass.

Pours a bright pinkish-red. The head...okay, so the head starts off as a finger of rosy foam, but then swiftly devolves into a strange singular sargassum in a corner (are there really any corners at the top of a circular glass?) of the surface. The smell is quite saccharine, most closely akin to candy necklaces. The taste continues this sweet trend, manifested as a blanding version of grenadine, with that tiny kick of carbonation thrown in so that the two can be differentiated. That isn't to say that it's all just kinda haveta be in the right mood, the right mindset. No, it doesn't really resemble a traditional beer, but, then again, many of our most respected beers strive to break our preconceived notions of what beer "ought" to taste like. That said, this guy isn't truly bad, but he also doesn't impress, either. Like I said before, you really must be in the mood for this kind of thing.

12 oz bottle poured into pint glass

A: OK it is Red... and I mean Red, little like sweet & sour sauce from a Chinese restaurant... Very unnatural Red. Pours clear, with little to no head and no lacing.

S: Smells sweet and Kool Aid like... maybe a little malt mixed in.

T: It is very very sticky sweet with a clear malt backbone.... Little ZIMA like.

M Very light-bodied, with a strong carbonation. More sticky feeling than anything else.

D: Does not really feel like a beer... ABV is so low that my kids could drink this. Very Zima like but even sweeter than that.

Avoid if you can.

A very un-beer beer. So much so, that I'm surprised that it shows up on BA. Falls quite far on the wine-cooler side. However the bottle reads 'Lager brewed with spices'. Although the lager part never showed up, the spices sure did. An abundant dose of ginger and sweet sugar dominated the brew, making it quite one-dimensional. Could easily been mistaken for a ginger ale soda. Absolutely no hopping or alcohol impact, just a sugary sweetness that lingers like most sodas do. The intriguing red color adds variety to the sight, but offers little afterwards. Fizzy carbonation and no body. Though pleasant enough to drink, it's certainly not why I'm a fan of real beer.

Bottle reads: "A blend of lager beer with artificail sorrel flavor and artificial color."

Best Before: November 08

A - Poured out a Kool-Aid red color with tons of carbonation. No head at all.

S - It smelled of ciniman and nutmeg.

T - The taste was sugary sweet with hints of cinamon and nutmeg.

M - It was very light-bodied and soda-like in mouthfeel.

D - Maybe try it once. I have no idea was sorrel is, but I got a lot of nutmeg/cinamon flavor out it.

Poured from 12oz bottle into a mug.

Appearance: crystal clear bright red body, like Kool-Aid, with a fizzy pink soda pop head. Doesn't look like beer at all, but really, is it supposed to?

Smell: sweet vanilla pudding aroma with cinnamon. I am not getting any malt or hops here, but again, I'm probably not supposed to. I don't really like cream soda, so the smell doesn't do it for me; still, at least it doesn't smell vile.

Taste: slightly fruity, cinnamoney cream soda flavor. This tastes about as little like beer as you can imagine, but again, it's not vile. Not liking cream soda, however, means I don't really like this.

Mouthfeel: insipid, watery body without much carbonation. Not worthy of further comment.

Drinkability: a sweet, bright red cream soda. I guess I can say I've had this now, but it might have to be a drain pour.

Pretty much read my other reviews from this brewery and replace the lime and ginger flavors with cinnamon and cherry ones .

Other notes to add:

The appearance is an awful artificial red. Is that supposed to trick you into being good? Smell is of a poorly imitated cherries and cinnamon. The taste reminds me of that fluoride the dentist gave you as a kid in that mouth protector thing.

This is the only one I didn't finish because I truly didn't like it. The others, were just too sweet.

Pours a bright pinkish red light color that looks like sparkling iodine. No head or carbonation. Smells like a fluoride treatment at the dentist office. First sip is sugary sweet with no beer flavor able to be detected. Too sweet for human consumption. Avoid unless you are [email protected]#$% NUTS!

Carib Shandy pours a candy apple red with a pink head from a clear twelve ounce bottle. The aroma is cinnamon like. The flavor is strongly cinnamon with some bubble gum like character as well. It is definitely sweet like soda pop. Pleasant enough, but not really what I would consider to be a beer.

Bought it because it was Red. Didn't know anything about it until I researched some of the stuff that is in it. Regardless of the things going on in here this has one of the oddest tastes I've ever come across. It was sweet like candy and herbal at the same time. Really strange. I don't plan on having this again.

The aroma is very sweet with cinnamon and perfume. The appearance is red with a small fizzy head. The flavor is like the aroma and not at all like a beer. Its basically a flavored malt beverage. The palate is watery. Overall this stuff is pretty bad in every way.
