House of Spirits is located in a small strip mall area in Monrovia. Since I was going to be in the area and saw nice reviews here on BA, I planned a visit.

The selection was very good. The beers were probably split evenly between beers on shelves and the other half in coolers. It looks like they get all the beers that better bottle shops have access to. The person behind the counter was super friendly and knowledgeable. If I lived closer, this would make my regular rotation. When in the area, I'll definitely stop by again.

Very solid bottle shop.

House is one of the best Bottle shops in the LA area. Beers are stored cold and the selection is extensive. Kelly and Chris know their stuff and get the best beers. Beachwood, Alpine,Cantillon just to name a few. Shop is clean and well organized and prices are fair. Stop in you won't be disappointed.

Amazing spot! I literally made this account just to be able to review this store. Chris the manager is insanely knowlageable, very fun to chat up with and if you truly take your time you will end up with some true gems. He helped me score my first Loon, BCBS, Chrysopolis and the list just goes on forever. 3F's, Mikkeller.

Whenever I am in Monrovia, I make sure to stop by House of Spirits. This place is great! They have all the regular beers along with a huge selection of craft and not so easy to come by beers. Plenty of cold door beers to choose from, along with shelves in the middle of the store.

The service is always prompt, friendly, and helpful. Kelly and his brother Chris are great people and most likely will have all the right answers to your questions. I was looking for some super fresh IPA's and a few barrel aged beers on my last trip. I ended up getting a case full of awesome stuff to say the least.

I highly recommend this place if you are looking for limited and allocated stuff.

Nice shop! They have all the regular beers, but there craft and "good" beer section is larger. They offer lot of beers you don't see every day, and from time to time get in some rarities. The service is not bad, and the girls that work there have at very least a decent knowledge of the names of good beers. Great store!

Ok so I live in West Covina and there are two places close that have some decent selections and some not so great selections. I have some stores nearby but not in the same city. I was searching online and came across house of spirits. I read some reviews on yelp and saw that they had a deep selection of major craft breweries, I figured that it was the regular shelf beer that I could find anywhere. I decided to take a trip and figured that I'd settle for a shelf beer so what the heck.

I pulled up and noticed some older shops in the same center and then the hige sign tht said "house of Spirits" in big red letters. I was hesitant to walk in because the place looked like it was kinda under construction. I walked in and noticed about 3 small aisles of store merchandise (chips candy etc.). To my surprise... They had an entire other half of the store with coolers.

I was pleased to see a smaller selection of domestic BMC (Bud Miller Coors) and an entire wall dedicated to craft beer. I was so pleased to see the usual suspects and more. I found aged beer (that can and should be aged) along with fresh IPAs, sours Krieks Imports etc. I picked out a couple of brews and was still browsing when the gentleman behind the counter politely walked up to me and took the beer from my hands and said that he'd hold them up at the counter so I can continue browsing. He later came back to see if I needed helped, introduced himself as Christopher and we began talking beer. I told him what a pleasant find of beers he had and that for certain I would be back.

I ended up leaving with an aged rare beer.. A rare sour... A fresh IPA and a fresh shelf beer.

Christopher and his brother hand pick everything that goes into their inventory, great knowledge of beer and not to mention that they have a boat load of other products (glassware, tobacco, wine etc.)

I will definetly be back and can't wait to see what I find next! Great place, just remember... Put some effort into looking through the cooler, lots of great finds guaranteed!

I had been meaning to stop by this place for some time. Now that I have I can say its definitely worth going out of my way to stop in this place. I had the chance to talk to one of the owners at length on the phone and later that day in person. He takes much pride in his selection and it is obvious that his intention is to become a dedicated bottle shop.

A- I did't give a 5 solely because one small section of the store is still under construction to become an eatery. This however has no impact on the cleanliness or accessibility of the store. After talking with the staff i'm told the plan is to make authentic top quality tacos. I'm expecting the food to be along the lines of a good craft bar, duck tacos or something awesome like that.

Q- Its hand picked, need I say more? ok, I will. This guy lives beer, its a hand picked selection.
While were on it about selection. They are so tight with the beer reps that they are getting the rare bottles your looking for while others get stiffed. That's what made me give a 5.

Service- After searching and calling places looking for a rare beer that the LA area only got 3 cases of I find this place. They let me know they will have 1 of the only cases left the next day. They kept me posted on the status and when they received it. Then knowing I was driving a far distance called me to let me know they sold out. I was bummed but they sent me to a sister store of theirs that had one waiting for me. Thats some beer geek love there! lol

Lastly I opted for inexpensive on the prices. This was an easy choice due to not one beer with extra markup. In fact I was noticing that many of the beers were $2 to $3 cheaper than typical. That means a lot when your buying four or five bottles!

Atmosphere: They recently remodeled and it's not completed yet. They're putting in a deli in the next three months or so. Once that's in, I'll probably boost this to a 5.

Quality: Extensive craft beer selection. They get Pliny the Elder, but it goes fast. They adhere to a 1 bottle per customer limit on the Elder, but it's still hit-or-miss. They had Cuvee Des Jacobins while I was there. A bunch of good IPA's and more. Too many good choices to list here.

Service: Very friendly and knowledgeable. It was slow while I was there, so I talked to the manager for a good 20 minutes about various beers, how we got into beer, how we got our wives into beer, etc. Always fun to meet beer people.

Selection: See quality. For a liquor store, quality is selection and selection is quality.

Bottom Line: If you're in the area you should take the time to check it out. You'll either walk out with a beer you've had trouble finding or with something they recommended that will make your day.
