On tap, served by Bjørn Hansen, "the crazy Dane from Gentofte" (more about him: see "Hansen EF-Domstols Øl"), at Gladmatfestivalen, Stavanger, as "Hartmann Felsentrunk Landbier". The Hansen 0.5 liter glass (quite good looking) was included in the rather steep price of the beer! The original Hartmann Felsentrunk Landbier swingtop bottle was exhibited on the counter, and when I asked for it, he claimed that this was the beer he actually had on tap. (He also had the paler EF-Domstols Øl). The colour was right, amber with a moderate head (this is no Schwarzbier!), but I did not get the faintest hint of smoke! The beer looked, smelled and tasted like a standard Danish "Classic". Moderate hops and some caramel malts in both aroma and flavour. OKish, but in no way remarkable.

Small off-white head faded to a thin ring in the blink of an eye without leaving any lace. Moderately sweet malts that are are a bit grainy along with some floral/tea hops in the aroma. If there is any smoky aroma it blends in with the grainy malt. Glowing pale amber colored beer contains a few streams of lazily rising bubbles. Hop tea flavor along with modeately sweet caramel malt and lurking beneath it all is a faint smoky flavor. The beer is moderately flavorful and holds the smoked malt well. It is nowhere near the beef jerky smokiness of Schlenkerla Marzen and even more subtle the some of the lighter smoked beers I've had. A well balanced, tasty beer.

From the tap at the brewery, it pours a clear darker amber with a nice light tan head. Smoke permeates the nose, but not in a bad way. The mouth enjoys the light smoke flavor with malt accents! Yum!

Sampled from bottle at Cafe Abseits in Bamberg, Germany.

This smokey kellerbier poured a slightly hazy, amber color with creamy, white foam that settled. The smell was modest, but light malt aroma could be detected. The taste was malty with a very light sweetness and a touch of smoke. The hoppiness was low. The smokiness was very modest. The mouthfeel was smooth with medium body and low carbonation. This was an OK beer and was easy to drink, but not very memorable, and very light on the smoke.
