Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.80%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
The Elusive Quackalope lives deep within the woods, where it stalks its prey in the quiet of the night. Its golden plumage gleams off the pale moon light and its razor sharp antlers leave one in awe. Make no mistake - This unassuming beast packs a ferocious bite.

Keeping this in mind, we created an American west coast style IPA that combines robust fresh citrus notes, resiny hop character and bitterness.

Be warned - This aggressively flavored yet balanced IPA bites back.

Bought a can of Quackalop whilst in Fort Lauderdale to take on a cruise. The beer poured a hazy copper with off-white head that left a lace. The scent had orange peel and biscuit. The taste was bitter grapefruit with pine and malt presence. The mouthfeel was medium in body with good carbonation. Overall it was quite nice.

Freshly canned, pours a nice off white head. Slightly cloudy amber color. Awesome lacing average retention. Smells like fresh picked buds. Very nice hoppy smell. It has a good hop forward taste that just falls flat on its ass, I mean no aftertaste. Overall I like the the bitter hoppyness of it I just wish it would hang around longer 4.00

L: This FL brew pours a somewhat hazy copper kettle color. Quite the fluffy 2+ inch head settles down to a thin, quarter inch crown that leaves marvelous streaks of lacing on the perimeter of my snifter.

S: Recognizably dried pineapple and fresh honeycomb. A little bit of pine. This smells wonderfully fruity, concealing the bitterness that lies ahead. Uncanny resemblance to dried fruit - It smells like you opened a Ziploc bag of dried fruit; very sweet in a natural sense.

T: Resin, resin, and more resin. A touch of the honey peeks through and again more dried fruit. Then another bitter profile comes into play: it's a taste that mimics what aromatic bitters smell like...Angostura to be specific.

F: Medium carbonation. Finish is long enough, despite other reviews.

O: This beer surprised me. I guess the can art threw me off a bit, I was expecting another forgettable IPA. The only thing that was a disappointment was that the nose was so rich and fruity that I was expecting a bigger malt backbone. Instead the flavor was a big hop-bomb of piney resinous delight...which is fine, just different than what I was expecting. Very drinkable, a solid IPA. Honestly, probably one of the best smelling IPAs I've had.
