Brewed by:
Barley Mow Brewing Company
Florida, United States

Style: American Black Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.40%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
This assertively hopped medium-bodied American black ale exudes a combination of woodsy and grapefruit hop notes, blended together with a complex dark malt character and subtle hints of chocolate and coffee.

This beer isn't for the weak of palate or heart.

Pours a light brownish color with dark ivory colored head. Pine, roast, and some light coffee tones on the nose; follows onto the palate. Medium bodied. Finishes with piney roast.

This was the bartenders choice for my tasting paddle at Mad Beach Brewing; a guest tap.
Dark brown body with a khaki-tan head; nice amount of lacing left in the glass.
Sweet smelling roast with hops!
Taste is delicious, really well balanced; chocolate and hops!
Medium mouth feel.
Was really surprised by this one; I don't usually enjoy Black IPA's because sometimes the roasted malts and hops don't play off of each other well, but this has a chocolate sweetness that matches well with the hop bitterness.

From a growler.
Sweet malts with faint dark roasted malts. The dark roast and some hops appear in the taste.
Oddly, given the sweet aroma, this has a bit more char than I prefer.
Black IPL? .. at least a black APA.
Earthy and herbal hops in the finish and aftertaste.

Nice dark color. Had this fresh at Barley Mow. Nice head and lacing. Strong piney hop aroma. Dark chocolate, roasty upfront, finishing with hop bitterness. Just what you expect from a black IPA. Very nice.

On tap at Brass Tap Brandon.

A - served in snifter with one finger of head. Black in color with a brown head and slowly disapates leaving nice lacing.

S - chocolate and sweet scents to the nose.

T - chocolate coffee and not sweet at first sip. Liquorice. Slight alcohol to taste. Has an aftertaste I'm not fond of.

M - medium mouthfeel with moderate carbonation.

Overall - Worth trying. Not a beer I would have again though.
