Style: Russian Imperial Stout

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 10.00%

Notes / Commercial Description:
Boris pours black and opaque like a moonless sky over Siberia. Eight different malts bring a complex aroma and flavor of chocolate, coffee and roasty sweetness. Just in case the winter gets too cold, we brewed this giant spider to 10% abv. So grab your snifter and ushanka and enjoy.

This is a nice dark, thick beer with a nice brown head. It smells pretty good with notes of chocolate, licorice, caramel and coffee. It is sweet and tastes like black licorice, caramel and dark chocolate with a coffee finish. The beer is decently bitter.

Bottle from Premier Gourmet from a couple years back. Thick malt and roast, more sweet than bitter but still bitter. Nothing outstanding in aroma, would have liked a good roast and coffee nose. A solid beer though more middle of the pack in this great category.

L - Pours into a chalice the color of coffee with thin tan head.

S - Butterscotch-sweet aroma, caramel, black licorice, toffee.

T - Black licorice, slight maple, rich mocha coffee, roasted malts, some hop-tang and tartness in the back, alcohol/slight "bleachy" taste, late. Medium to heavy body/texture.

F - Dryish, slightly sticky, playful effervescence...not overdone, medium to med/heavy

O - The taste was less sweet than I had expected (based on the aroma). I do prefer my RIS to be dryer, less sweet, more coffee than sweet malts, etc. And this brew delivers in that regard. I generally steer clear of 10% and over abv...b/c I'm leery of the alcohol component destroying beer character/flavor...but this offering didn't suffer any of those effects. On the contrary, the abv was extremely well hidden by some pretty rich flavors.

Bottled on 10/21/15.Pours into a goblet jet black with no light getting thru it even when held to the light a thinner but well sustained mocha colored head atop.Big mocha coffee aromas really jump out at ya along with underlying char and earth, great stuff so far.Very smooth and creamy in the mouth with a fuller feel...again great stuff here.Mixed flavors of dark roast coffee, char, bitter chocolate, then some caramel and vanilla sweetness to round out the palate.Damn this is a fine RIS,my first try of Spider Bite and I'am very impressed, great stuff!

On draft at Beef and Brew. Blacker than used motor oil, but basically no head or lacing to speak of. Lots of coffee and chocolate notes with hints of dark fruits and a touch of booziness. Medium-thick bodied, so a little thin for a RIS, but worse things have happened.

355ml bottle poured into tulip 21/12/15

A black liquid, thin edge, a finger of dark foams gone in seconds leaving no lace

S chocolate syrup, licorice, coffee, earthy hops, charred wood and molasses

T heavy char, dark roasted coffee, bakers chocolate, not far from the nose just a little burnt but that suits me just fine

M very thick and rich, bubbles soften it up, a little slick, sticky on the lips, molasses and char just keep going

O simple but solid, thick liquid and all the important aspects are well taken care of and the booze is well hidden

If you like burnt malt this ones right up your alley, well suited for this cold evening

Poured from a bottle to tulip glass.

A pretty solid beer that was enjoyable overall, but a little out of balance for me. It seemed to have some form of off flavors, but I cannot put my finger on exactly what.

Smooth and silky, thick and chocolatey with coffee notes on the nose and palate, plus a slight licorice taste. The head disappears quickly.

Easy drinking and delicious. Best beer I've had in a long while.
