Notes: We scraped all the HASH out of the Yakima hop pelletizers that we could get our sticky fingers on to concoct the dankest double IPA out there. The pure hop lupulin, AKA “HASH” (the resiny stuff!), meshes seamlessly with the 2-row, pilsner and wheat malts, allowing it to deliver a pungent punch to the palate.

We just got distribution of Sweetwater this week to Queens NY.

After all the hype surrounding this brand, and this particular IPA, I have to say that there is some slight disappointment in this ale.

Poured 37F into a tulip snifter from the 12 ounce bottle.

Color is a fairly solid, slightly translucent gold.. Perfect grain bed malts in terms of coloring. Really well thought in terms of ale shading and grain extract.

Lacing is perfect in terms of head retention and sucrose measurements.

The problem with this ale is the hop blend, dry hopping (or lack thereof) as well as the sugary aftertaste.

The mouthfeel is thin. Not American adjunct lager thin, but very thin for a an ale of this abv%. Kind of missing the essential oats and malts blends for an ale of this caliber. The hop oils are also non existent.

Now the only retailer that I was able to purchase this six pack at was a 24 hour fast food market (convenience store). The owners don't quite understand beer handling or storage. Their coolers sit in direct sunlight and I suspect that even if the ales are shipped to them cold through the distributor, they will let them sit at room temp for numerous hours destroying the yeast profile and hop isomerization.

So in the end this ale looked really good, but tasted really flat and flavorless. I'm certainly willing to give the brand another chance, but with such poor distribution and handling procedures in such a high end market like NYC, it is quite apparent the Sweetwater brewers might want to head north to promote their product, if they want to make it stick in this market.

I can certainly tell that this is a high end craft ale, but there were numerous mishandling and poor marketing roadblocks that occurred before it reached me, the local consumer in NYC.

Much better local options on draft and in growlers, so I don't think I would waste the time or effort to seek this brand again unless they made a more concerted effort to promote fresher, more professionally handled product.

Full on hop resin character here, some tropical fruit with hints of hop spice and floral alcohol. A real enjoyment to sip. Glad it was at the lower end of alcohol as it shows balance and ends up being quite drinkable.

sample at the sweetwater draft house and grill, hartsfield-jackson atlanta airport, terminal B. oct 17 2015

a: golden yellow with white head

s: dank pine, passionfruit, and a bit of mango

t: hands down the most dank, resiny beer i've had. like chewing marijuana leaves or something. slight tropical fruit and grapefruit lie underneath all the weed-like flavours. high bitterness at the end

m: medium mouthfeel with moderate carbonation

o: a DIPA for those who love the pine and marijuana characteristics from hops. great stuff

I got to try this over the weekend. I was told this was a rare treat as it is not sold in stores as of yet. This is extremely delicious, and as you see by the rating I gave, I highly recommend Hop Hash. I look forward to seeing it at Total Wine.

Pours golden with a light orange tint. Smells of orange blossom, pine, sweet malts and maybe a little coriander. Tastes of pine, orange blossom and grapefruit, bready and some rye. Sweet malt and floral pine aftertaste, silky medium body and carbonation.

Poured a cloudy orange body with one finger head and lace ring/patches down glass. Aroma gives off an earthy, citric (for some reason I get more lemon than usual) hop vibe with touches of tropical fruit. Smooth, fuller bodied beer that gives off a dirty, earthy hop taste that leads to a crisp, bitter dry finish. Balance is kept with this beer thanks to some tropical fruit sweetness. Not perfectly executed but pretty enjoyable DIPA that balances strong hops with hoppy, fruit sweetness.

Pours a clear amber, big white foamy head. There around a huge amount of bubble in here.

Smell is earthy, lemon, grassy, biscuit, grapefruit. On the lighter side.

The taste is lemon, orange, earthy, grapefruit very bitter.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation.

An original take on the DIPA and very easy drinking.
