Sweetwater Blue is a crisp and tasty desert beer. Very few places keep this beer on tap, but it is a must after a full round of wings or seafood. The blueberry taste is natural and crisp. Not artificial in any way. Blueberry is an easy fruit to fake, but Sweetwater keeps it real with natural blueberries.

This beer smells and tastes like an orchard of freshly picked berries. I am not a fan of fruit flavored beers, but this one is natural and pure and doesn't taste fake.

Try this if you are looking for a good desert beer that won't send your palette into confusion.

A - thick white head with good head retention; light color; very good crisp clarity

S - strong blueberry aroma; smells like wild fruit as apposed to artificial flavourings which is a very good thing; gives the aroma an almost feral quality that you don't expect in such a crisp, light beer

T - the primary flavor is a strong taste of fresh blueberries; at first this fruity taste is a little too sweet, but it is soon balanced by a hoppy bitterness which cuts through the sweetness and balances the flavor profile perfectly; the surprising thing about this beer is the fact that the blueberry taste does not at all overpower the beer; it manages to balance the sweetness of the blueberries with the bitterness of the hops perfectly

M - high level of carbonation; a little rough on the tongue for a beer with such a delicate flavor profile; when the fizziness subsides the beer has a very syrupy body which is to be expected from a fruity ale; perhaps is a little too syrupy for such a crisp, light beer; overall the mouthfeel is not unpleasant, it just seems to take something away from the blueberry flavor

D - Give me more.

I absolutely bloody love this beer.

Sweetwater Blue from Atlanta, GA. Says 4.6% ABV on bottle, not 4.9%.

This beer has a great blueberry smell and an awesome blueberry wheat taste. Not as sweet as you'd expect with the smell (in a good way). Lots of carbonation. Very refreshing, especially in the summer. One of my favorites.

I drank it out of a bottle from Food City in Knoxville, TN on 12/22/2012 from a create your own 6-pack.

It is a really enjoyable beer. The appeance wasn't all that. It did not have much head and no lace on the glass as it goes down. The smell is interesting you can definetly smell the blueberries but you can still smell some of the hop. The taste is a lot better that what I expected I was suprised. The mouthfeel is there and finishes smooth and refreshing which makes for a wonderfuld drinkability. Good beer even though I am not much for a fruity beer. I did not read the label before I drank the beer so it was kind of a suprise.

Hazy straw color with a full pillowy white head, active carbonation, and suspended sediment. Big blueberry aroma ! Nice balanced grain-wheat-blueberry flavor; fruit is subdued but noticeable. Light bodied and refreshing -- a bit airy from carbonation but not a problem.

Pleasantly suprised as blueberries are not my favorite.

Per label: "light bodied ale enhanced with fresh blueberries" & "Blueberries and natural flavor added"

Per B.A.B. book: Pale and Wheat malts

Poured from a bottle into a Chimay goblet

A- pours a transparent shade of light orange with a one finger head that fades instantly. The lack of a head is disappointing, but the beer itself looks great

S- the blueberry smell is super strong and very pleasant. Doesn't smell like a beer at all. Awesome

T- there is a lot of blueberry flavor coming out in this one, with a solid malt backbone too. Getting some very faint floral hops too. Pretty damn great.

M- it's pretty thin, but with how strong the blueberry flavor is, I wouldn't want it to be very thick and get overwhelmed by things

O- this is a really great beer, and I understand why so many in the south love it. I want more!

What a great fruit beer. The beer has a nose of blueberry, with hints of hops and traces of malt. The color is a pale cloudy yellow consistent of a wheat brew, with a small white head. The taste is that of blueberry muffins, which is what you would expect of a blueberry wheat beer. The finish has subtle malt and very light hops with I think help to keep the sweetness of the blueberries in check. Very drinkable fruit beer without too much sweetness. I agree with Uglyradio?s assessment in that I could not drink this all the time, but I wouldn?t drink any fruit beer on more than an occasional basis.

Ok, I know, another fruit beer. But is good, I promise. Pours a clear yellow, with white small carbo head. Not very impressive, but it's an ok looking beer. Smells yeasty, with good scents of blueberry. Has a sweet yeasty profile, with lots of blueberry flavor. Slighlty tart. Mouthfeel is medium body. Very good drinkable beer. Next to sea dog, this is one of my favorites. Hate that it's not distrubuted to Charlotte, what's that all about?

This brew was the first beer after Abita Purple haze that I have tried with any fruit resemblance to it. I loved the smell wow you could open this brew 15ft from me and I would either believe I was at IHOP or you just opened a Sweetwater Blue. Smooth very smooth clean crisp blueberry taste brilliant finish that leaves both beer and blueberry. The alcohol is there but not at all powerful. If you are tired of your girlfriend drinking to many fru fru drinks that cost an arm and a leg buy here one of these and your gold.

my neighbor turned me on to sweet water blue. I really like fruit beers and I really love blueberries. Can you say somebody spilt their chocolate on my peanutbutter? But seriously, this is a great beer. The color is a light gold with a touch of haze. The smell is of blueberries. The flavor is more fruit than beer, which isn't bad. I like the drinkability with the finish of blueberries. I think the combo is executed well. I will be drinking more of this.

Very light almost honey colored with hints of a cereal or toasted grain with a nice upfront blueberry aroma. After poured the head diminishes quickly to about a half finger width. Also very light on the hoppy side. Has a real light feel to the mouth and its very smooth. If fruit beer is for you this one is worth a try

Received as an extra in a trade and poured into my Duvel tulip.

A - Pours a light, crystal clear golden hue. A hard pour results in a one finger white head that fades to leave a thin halo and light wisps.

S - Nice wheat notes with good blueberry skin. Very aromatic and inviting.

T - Like the nose, more of the wheat qualities and aspects come through followed by nice blueberry notes. Tasty blueberry notes here. Very clean.

M - Good carbonation here, very crisp clean and refreshing.

O - Overall, not a bad blueberry beer. Actually grew on me as I drank it. Quite enjoyable and would be excellent on a summer day.

Sweetwater Blue is a lighter wheat beer with a fruit addition. The first thing that hits you when yoiu pick one up is the smell. It smells exactly like blueberry pancakes! Interesting for a beer. The beer is not itself blue, but rather a clear mid-yellow color. It holds a reasonable head of about an inch. The blueberry taste of the beer is not as strong as the odor is. The blueberry expresses itself subtlely instead of being an overpowering syrup. The medium carbonation and relatively low ABV make this a light ale, suitable for a session drink or a quick one at lunch.

Sweetwater Blue would be a great choice if you wanted to have a beer at a brunch or something. It also goes well with a snack. I feel that other fruits would compliment it nicely. Light and cool, with the slighty hint of fruit, it is also popular with the ladies that I know.

Get a six pack for your girlfriend and snag one or two for yourself.

This beer poured a slightly cloudy, staw yellow color with almost no head to speak of. Nice ring of "head" around the circumference of the glass, though. The fact that this beer is made from/with blueberries is INSTANTLY noticeable in the smell. It won't knock you down, but you can definately tell it's got blue berries in it. Very lightly carbonated, which makes for really easy drinking. The taste is, well, of blue berries, and then a slightly biscuit-y aftertaste. Man, I could pound these damn things ALL night. Good taste, easy drinkin'. This is certainly a session beer, and I will buy more of this in the future.

This one pours a rather cloudy deep gold in color with a decent white head that settles are a medium rate with minimal lacing on the glass.

The nose is definitely fruity like tart blueberries that aren't quite ripe.

The flavors are nice dry malt with some tart fruit and mild hops.

The mouthfeel is richer than expected and goes down nice.

Overall a very drinkable beer. This trikes me a great hot day beer.

Down in Atlanta, visiting family, I was lucky enough to stop at the Sweetwater brewery. A wonderful place. Tried all of their fine beers...pretty much as fresh as you can get them.

The blue was really nice, for those of you who like fruit beers. It was not overly sweet. Golden in color, with a nice, lite, fruity scent. The taste was crisp, clean, but as noted, not too too sweet. Great for a summer afternoon.

Not a typical style you find all over, but it is served in many Atlanta bars...the brewery guide said they are only distributing in a limited area, so those of us in the northeast will not be seeing Sweetwater anytime soon.

Had this on tap at a grand opening for a nightclub bowling alley. The appearance was clean but cloudy golden color. The smell was fantastic, hints of blueberry along with some lemon and maybe raspberries. The taste to me was outstanding. The blueberry was at the forefront and this beer was smooth.I have had some of sweetwaters offerings before but this is by far my favorite.

I grabbed one of these when I made my own six pack at World Market.

A: A nice, extemely light amber, almost golden, a small frothy head that doesn't stick around long at all. No lacing to speak of.

S: Like fresh baked blueberry muffins, pleasant and surprising, but not much else to speak of.

T: Blueberry with a side of blueberry, and me being a fan of the flavor I was pleased, although if you're looking for complexity beyond the obvious, slight grain and blueberry, there really isn't too much to be found.

M: Smooth, with a nice amount of carbonation, that isn't overwhelming to the pallet.

D: I would definitely recommend this as a dessert beer or for a hot summer day. Although, the flavoring of fruit beers tends to wear thin for me after a few bottles.

Poured this one into a pint glass little to no head but tons of carbonation. Has a clear yellowish/gold color. Smells of strong blueberry flavor and it is a bit artificial. As you drink this one the front is a sweet flavor but not overwhelming and as it moves to the back the blueberry comes through. I like this one not overly amazed by it. Would buy it again but mainly to support local brewers.

A: Pours a crisp gold, with about an inch of head that hang around for a few minutes.

S: Not a very strong smell(Though I am getting over a cold), but there is a hit of hops and a clean fruit smell.

T: Refreshing, not overpowering. Definitely a blueberry presence, and a nice balance of grains and hops.

M: Goes down super smooth, with a clean finish.

D: Super drinkable. I would love to have these on a hot summer's day with the grill going (If I had a grill, that is).

Poured from a 12-oz bottle into a glass mug.

Not too much retention of the white head, but did pour a nice light amber color that was very clear. Not much lacing to be seen.

Smells nice, lots of blueberries with a little bit of malt coming through as well.

Tastes first of some slight malts with the blueberries coming in late and restrained, which is good. Definitely not oversweetened or artificial tasting.

Sort of a light, clean mouthfeel with a moderate amount of carbonation.

Overall, this is a very drinkable beer. It's by far my favorite fruit beer that I've tried so far; it doesn't taste like a bowl of Fruity Pebbles. The fruit flavor is subtle and restrained, but still there. Another good beer from a solid brewery.

Tried this one years ago but this review corresponds to a sample on tap at the airport. Classy! Poured a gorgeous golden/straw hue but very little head and no retention. No lacing either. Aromas clearly of blueberries, bananas and wet straw. Flavors are sweet and fruity with the unmistakable blueberry character out front. A graininess in the malt gives this beer further tang. Wheat is subdued beneath the sugars. Perfect carbonation and a light body helps this beer be very sessionable and probably a great brew for the girls. Smooth but slightly zippy on the tongue. Some hops at the very end provide a clean finish. Good example of a fruit beer and one of the best blueberry beers I know of.

Enjoy by 11/19/12

A= Pours a nice hazy yellow color with a few chunky pieces floating in it. The head is a pure white color and rises to a quarter finger before falling to a skin on top of the glass. LIttle lacing is left behind.

S= Smells like candy blueberry. It reminds me of candy. That's about it as far as aroma goes. No wheat or hop aroma comes through just a lot of candy blueberry.

T= The flavor has a little more of a wheat character to it. The candy blueberry comes through just as it did in the nose making this a rather unique and tasty fruit beer. The candy isn't overdone making it too sweet.

M= The mouth is about perfect.

O= This is a great beer I think. A fruit beer is a fruit beer. Yeah it tastes a little artificial but it's not overly sweet and candy like. The wheat comes through in the flavor and it's freaking blueberry! This is worth drinking again and again in the summer.

Pretty tasty, not six pack beer. Prolly one or two glasses, and you'll wanna switch to something else, but a lot less thick and consuming then blueberry beers out there. The blueberry flavor is just right . I really enjoyed this coming from a brew company that does more IPA then anything else

Appearance: Beautiful golden color with a nice, but small (1/2") frothy white head. The carbonation is incredible. I don't understand how such a carbonated beer has such a small head.
The millions of inviting bubbles are begging me to drink this beer. Nice lacing also.

Smell: Very faint blueberry smell.

Taste: Really nice blueberry taste.

Mouthfeel: Watery and lacking in carbonation.

I'm not a big fan of fruit beers, but this beer hits the spot. It's a great tasting, refreshing session beer that's perfect on a hot day. I can tell that I'll be craving this beer bad from time to time.
