Very Good
420 Strain G13 IPA420 Strain G13 IPA
Notes: G13 IPA is a strange new strain, indeed. We took the dank hop profile you’d expect from a hazy IPA, and married it with terpenes and natural hemp flavors. The result is a big yet balanced IPA that mimics the aroma and taste of a heady, green G13. G13 IPA is a sticky super-hybrid that’s ready to rip.

Pungent and dank aromatics on this terpene infused IPA fill the room once the beer is opened. We went with an aggressive dry hop schedule which interlaces nicely with the unique flavors to bring forward citrus and earthy notes followed by a resinous finish. This one’s fire!

Pretty good looking pour with a pale golden body with a slight haze, and a two finger thick durable head. The aroma is not as strongly "herbal" as the other beers in this mixed 12 pack. The smell had a bit of orange peel in it which was followed by some floral flourish. The taste was tangy, bittersweet, and delicate. The mouthfeel was slick and refreshing. Overall this was a solid offering all around.

Sample from the brewery. This IPA is hazy and deep gold in color with a white cap of foam that leaves an attractive lacing behind. And, as expected, it delivers ample darkness in the aroma. Pungent and resinous with flashes of marijuana, thyme, pineapple, and green banana in the nose. The Simcoe hops definitely stand out. SweetWater has brewed a beer on the lighter end of medium bodied with an impressive depth of flavor and a persistent degree of herbal bitterness that prickles the palate. Deliciously old school, yet appealingly new school with its use of hemp terpenes, G13 finishes semi-dry, and begs for a second glass. It's likely to be an, um, high point of 2018 for quite a few IPA drinkers.

A: poured from a 16 oz can into a pint glass, amber colored with a huge white head that lingers leaving good lacing, hazy

S: this smells exactly like a bag of high quality indoor hydroponically grown marijuana

T: earthy hop profile, bitter up front, has slight garlic notes, pine and lemon

M: thick and sticky

O: they created the smell as advertised, but the flavor of the beer didn't live up

Very Sessionable Un-Filtered IPA with a definite Hemp Boquet. Really good finish. Very approachable. Lighter than expected especially with a 6.0% ABV. It's not a "One & Done" kind of IPA. Very drinkable. Be careful though - It will sneak up on you!

Wow. This is one dank IPA. The hemp oils (or whatever they add) make this beer smell like a bag of juicy weed. It is like no other IPA.

Then to boot, it’s all wrapped in a smooth slightly hazy slightly opaque straw colored beer. The perfect compliment light malt bill to accent the hemp dank with a very low bitterness.

Well done Sweet Water. 5/5 overall. And I’ve had hundreds of high end IPAs. This is in the top few.

If you want your whole house to smell like you just showed up at your pot dealers house during a party, I recommend this beer! I actually really like the smell and taste of it, but the side effects, at least for me, make it a beer I'll drink only under certain conditions.

I picked up a 6 pack and my wife complained that her son would think we were smoking pot if I drank it downstairs. NP, take it up to our bedroom. Enjoyed it. The next day my flatulence was the most GOD awful thing we've ever smelled. Need to convince someone at work that you're sick? Down one or two of these about 20-24 hours beforehand.

The bottle says it's thick, dank, and sticky. Honestly I think they were reviewing the farts the next day. I loved the beer, but plan on spending the next day away from embarrassing situations if you're gonna drink it.

I thought it would be a gimmick maybe good for one beer. No, it's crazy dank and very drinkable.

A golden, very slight haze
S LIKE SOMEONE OPENED A GIANT BAG OF WEED AND SLAPPED YOU ACROSS THE FACE WITH IT
T Seems to start off real "dank" but mellows... it's good
M Neither thick nor thin - slight pucker keeps me coming back

Seriously way better than I thought it would be

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, best before 2/20/2019. Pours fairly hazy deep golden amber/light orange color with a 1 finger fairly dense and rocky off white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big red grapefruit, tangerine, peach, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, mango, melon, berries, weed, citrus peel/rind, wood, mint, peppercorn, pine, wheat, cracker, white bread dough, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops, hemp, and moderate bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big red grapefruit, tangerine, peach, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, mango, melon, berries, weed, citrus peel/rind, wood, mint, peppercorn, pine, wheat, cracker, white bread dough, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, peach, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, mango, melon, berries, weed, citrus peel/rind, wood, mint, peppercorn, pine, wheat, cracker, white bread dough, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops, hemp, and moderate bready malt flavors; with an awesome malt/bitterness balance, and no lingering hop astringency after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready/grainy, sticky/resinous/rindy, and fairly crisp balanced mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 6%. Overall this is an excellent hazy hemp IPA! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops, hemp, and moderate bready malt flavors; very smooth, easy, and fairly crisp to drink with the mellowly bitter/resinous/drying finish, not overly aggressive. Awesome Simcoe/Columbus profile. Very dank, earthy, juicy, and vibrant balanced hop/hemp complexity; with a nice wheat/oat/malt backbone. Minimal residual sweetness from crisp resin dryness. A very enjoyable offering, and well made hazy style example. The hemp character complemented the hop profile perfectly, without being overwhelming.

Can. Golden orange light haze lasting head and lace. Dank ass bud aroma with citrus and grassy medium sweetness and assertive juicy bitterness in dry finish. Medium soft body with enough carbo to accentuate the hops. TOTALLY FUCKING EXCELLENT.

Pours a hazy pale orange with a frothy white head.

Smells of hemp green herbs and citrus fruit.

Taste is green and dank giving way to some bitter and sweet orange and a slight hit of malt biscuit.

BOTTLE: 12 fl oz. Brown glass. Branded black pry-off crown cap. Black and white label design.

6% ABV. "IPA." "Malt beverage with natural hemp-type flavour." Best enjoyed by: 03/19/19."

Served cold into a nonic pint glass.

APPEARANCE: Head is ~2cm in height. White in colour. Holds up for a good ~5 minutes.

Body is a fairly vibrant orange. Nontransparent but translucent. I see no yeast or lees within.

Looks nice for an IPA, but it isn't holy shit amazeballs.

AROMA: Dank. It's surprising how cannabis-redolent this aroma is without seeming artificial. Heavy on hop oils, myrcene/mango skin, resins. Floral and slightly citrusy. Hemp oil is definitely indicated.

Uncommonly appealing. Aromatic intensity is high. Suggests a beer with cannabis/hemp notes aimed at the the stoner demographic but that seems to boast a wild depth of flavour as well as a distinct natural hemp character. I'm surprised how salivating this is.

TASTE: Tastes as cannabis/hemp-redolent as it smells. It's uncanny. I expected an artificial flavour garbage beer but got a surprisingly genuine-tasting oily cannabis-like brew with plenty of resins and hemp-like oils bouncing around. Mango/myrcene comes through as well as fainter notes of floral hop flavours. 2-row/pale malt lends some sweetness to keep things balanced.

Balanced and enjoyable, with a unique hemp-like flavour. Yes, they used "natural flavor" - but it works.

TEXTURE: Coating, smooth, wet, refreshing, aptly medium-bodied, quite oily...this is terrific. The oiliness of the mouthfeel accentuates the oily hop flavour profile fantastically.

OVERALL: SweetWater is a brewery I've heretofore disregarded unfairly; G13 is an IPA that seems like it'd be a gimmick but actually delivers on its far-out premise. A downright tasty cannabis-inspired IPA that I'd happily buy a sixer of any time. Has a unique flavour profile to boot, which is tough to pull off in today's oversaturated IPA market. Bravo!

03/16/19 I had to buy another sixer after really enjoying the first. Giving a quick impression below in case there's batch variation:

Yeah, it's a solid IPA no two ways about it. The cannabis flavour could have been a marketing gimmick, but holy shit sonofabitch it works.

Damn drinkable and dareisay unique.

Cannabis-redolent with a nice hop profile. Sure, it's gimmicky, but boy does it play out its gimmick well. A cannabis IPA with balls and depth of flavour,

Quite likable.

Fucking great IPA. Very westward. Bottles are thick and black; perfect for homebrew. Wasn't that expensive. My only fear is that it's limited or will be hard to find in PA.

L: A hazy sap-orange brew with a loose bubbly two finger ivory head that fades to a cap and a sticky lacing.

S: Orange citrus hits me first but is quickly followed by a dank smoke.

T: Off-dry with a bitter and dank weedy afterbite. I'm happy to see a citrus backbone to balance this brew out.

F: Light to medium weight, moderately low carbonation, with a dry and bitter finish!

O: This is good. I thought it would be too much but I found it still a balanced brew overall. I'd have this again but might question a full four pack of 16oz'ers.

I have been drinking IPA's for over a decade and I have had numerous beers with dankish undertones. With that being said this is the first beer I have ever had that straight up smells like a bag of weed when you pop it open. Taste wise it is mostly citrus with some dull dank underneath. Appearance wise it Is a hazey unfiltered orange, great smell, good taste with a smooth and thin mouthfeel. I recommend checking this one out if you are into "dank" beers. The dank smell is most noticeable when you first pop it.

A: Semi hazy orange. Loose but fluffy head.

S: Strawberry, white grape blunts. Pink citrus glade air freshener and a cedarwood incense; a college dorm room with one of those trippy cannabis inspired wall canvases.

M: Body is resiny/thick with a warming feel.

T: Sweet on the palate as mang, nectarine, and apricot tropics dominate. Banana esters, spice; the backbone is basically earth, onion. Clean, assertivw, delicate bitterness.
