Picked this up on a recent trip to ATL at Mac's beer and wine.

A- Has the appearance of a stout, dark black with a mocha color head that fades quickly.

S- Nothing too crazy here, roasted malts with a strong coffee aroma.

T- The taste follows the nose with roasted malts up front and finishes with the mild coffee flavor. Also seems to have hints of vanilla, dark chocolate, oak.

M- Medium amount of carbonation, and a very smooth overall mouthfeel.

O- Overall a solid beer from Sweetwater, this is a highly drinkable beer especially for one flavored with coffee, which is perfectly balanced in this brew.

A - A black chocolate color. Very nice head retention and lace on the glass. The head is a coffee/dark color. Impressive.

S - A roasted malty aroma. I am smelling sweet flavors as well.

T - A very smooth, malty backbone. Coffee beans and a nice chocolate aftertaste. Very good! The 8.5abv is hidden from the multitude of coffee beans and chocolate flavors.

M - Smooth throughout. Carbonated perfectly.

O - A very good porter. I dig it...

Poured from a bomber into a pint glass.

A: Very dark but clear. Two finger head. Quickly dissipates into a thin film of bubbles. Coats glass nicely as drunk.

S: Faint notes of chocolate, coffe, and malt.

T: A nice porter. The coffee taste is mild and compliments the malt well. Chocolate comes through as does some milk flavors.

M: Creamy, but not like a milk stout. Very good for a porter. Finishes well.

O: A great porter. This bottle is over a year old and has muted characteristics compared to what I remember when it was fresh, but everything is so well blended that I really enjoyed it.

A - Pours a thick, dark brown almost black color with a toffee color head. Small hint of lacing occurs around the glass.

S - Strong coffee scents with some toffee, brown sugar, and some hints of chocolate. The coffee isn't too overpowering with the toffee/sugar scents coming in quite nicely.

T - Very smooth, almost creamy with some coffee notes and more of a chocolate taste than what I was expecting from the smell.

M - Dances on your tongue and flows down real well making it a good brew to sip.

O - A solid porter that's really nice on the nose.

Poured from a bomber into a Founders snifter.

A: Pours a nice black with a big and fluffy light tan head. Leaves a nice sticky lace down the edge of the glass.

S: I'm picking up some light coffee notes with a woody/accent and a slight hoppiness as well. Some light vanilla on the back end.

T: Even more oak-like characters and even more hops on the front end with a light coffee following it up. Very disappointing so far. Some sweet vanilla on the backend with a very distant alcohol. No real big coffee notes I was expecting.

M: Bubbly and sort of thin for the style, but does leave a nice mild chocolate on the palate.

O: I was pretty disappointed with this one. For a beer titled "Mean Joe Bean" and labeled as an Imperial Porter I would have thought it would have held up better. The coffee had faded and the really was taking a back seat to the wood and hops notes. It wasn't bad, but I was looking for some palate destroying coffee notes that just didn't shine through.

22oz. bottle poured into a snifter. Thanks to 67couple for this one.

A: Black with a touch of light on the edge. A one finger head rises only with an aggressive pour. Tan in color with decent retention but great lacing.

S: Coffee but rather light. A burnt wood aroma like a campfire. Faint chocolate.

T: Chocolate and a faint toffee upfront. Very dark roasted coffee with a charred woodiness. Finishes with a nuttiness along with a touch of anise.

M: Very light body. Minimal carbonation. Light creaminess.

O: I liked this one. Lacking in places it is still easy drinking and rather enjoyable.

22oz brown bomber with no freshness date.

LOOK: Surpassed the line of being opaque in blackness, nice tan lacing.

SMELL: Used coffee grounds, licorice root, peppercorn, nonpareils, hint of alcohol, dried dark fruit.

TASTE: Burnt coffee, sweet chocolate, warming booze, modest hopping, sweet, burnt finish.

A sweet mess, none of the flavors seem to the meld well. Coffee? It seems to add to the mess rather than rounding out the brew. Not a disaster but something you'd want to share with several friends.

A serious Steeler fan brewed this beer.Poured into an imperial nonic deep dark brown, nearly black with a one finger creamy toasted almond colored head.Aromas are like a coffee house, deep roast with some vanilla notes,a raw earthines comes thru with even a smoky note noticeable.Dark roast and earthy tones on the palate, light vanilla tinged sweetness along with bitter chocolate and heavy coffee roast, quite earthy in the finish. It seems like alot of the others who reviewed this beer didnt get the coffee presence I got,I think the coffee is spot on and is the main component of the beer,I really like it and will buy more.

22oz into a pint

A - Extraordinarily dark - very black without any highlights. Mocha colored head, well retained at about 1/4".

S- Solid coffee roast, lightly burnt, lightly charred. Some chocolate malts sneak through, bittersweet.

T - Starts off lightly malty, some chocolate, some straight 2 row. Mid-stream brings in some coffee beans, some burnt notes, sometimes harsh. No hopping. Finishes clean, lightly malty.

M - Solid body, stronger carbonation. Balanced for the style. Very clean finish.

O/D - Strong ABV can sneak up on you. Lightly filling, somewhat heavy, okay for the style. Flavors are not overwhelming, especially for the coffee style.
