Bottle poured in a Goose Island Glass.

Appearance: black, but light still shines through the glass. There's also a thin brownish head present with a thin lacing that breaks up when tilting the glass.

The Aroma is chocolatey with a slight hop presence. Citrusy and sweet at the same time.

I can feel the "warmth" of the alcohol, but I can't taste it. I can taste the sweetness from the sugary malt, and the citrusy hoppy flavor combined with a slight smoked after taste resulting in a well balanced beer.

I wouldn't consider it containing a dense mouthfeel, but I also wouldn't consider it having a thin mouthfeel. It's in between. It also contains slight carbonation, as expected due to the 10% ABV.

Overall I consider this a great beer. One of my favorites! It's too bad that this is a one time release. I can definitely taste the hoppyness flavor cutting through, yet it's not really bitter; It's more on the citrusy side. It's is a very well balanced beer containing a complex taste. I would definitely buy this again.

bottle into Duvel glass, purchased from Stones River Total Beverages

appearance: pitch black, large off white head, intricate lacing

smell: piney, earthy floral hops, coffee, chocolate, caramel, roasted malts

taste: strong malt presence, notes of dark chocolate with some roasted espresso/coffee, also equally strong floral hop presence. tastes similar to happy ending, but a bit more full. very, very, very drinkable for a 10%, especially considering all the flavor packed into this bomb of a beer. this is amazing...

mouthfeel: not too carbonated but a huge full bodied feel, amazing

overall: One of my favorite black IPAs i've had, with the second being Sweetwaters Happy Ending. Also reminds me of Stone's Sublimely Self-Righteous a little... A hop bomb with a dark chocolatey twist, tons of flavor in this brew. Glad I scored 2 of these, this is an amazing brew that I will likely never see again. WIsh I could drink this on the reg, but I'll settle for the seasonal Happy Ending to satisfy my palate. Worth the hype and the cost.

Another Dank Tank offering from Sweetwater, in a 22oz bomber

A - Black with no clarity, with 1 finger of head and a slight amount of lace left on the glass

S - Huge dank hop aroma. Some coffee notes, but hops overwhelm. Smells fresh and amazing.

T - Big taste and hoppy. Delicious. Period. Extremely well balanced. Good mix between citrusy and malty hops.

M - Full bodied and well carbonated. Perfect.

O - An amazing black DIPA. Maybe the best I have ever had. Get Some Strange! The story about el Danko on the back of the bottle is worth the $5.99 in itself.

A: Pours an attractively dark and swampy black. Light tan head that sticks around. Lovely lacing.

S: An absolutely wonderful pine and citrus nose full with a subtle floral undertone.

T: A great mix of malt, pine, hops and citrus. Superb drinkability with no hint of the 10% abv.

M: Great carbonation and silky smooth going down.

O: A truly excellent IPA. Highly recommend.

22 oz bottle, 34 degrees to start, snifter. (first tried at the Sweetwater 4/20 Fest, though)

A: VERY Dark, but what was I thinking, it's a "black" IPA, right?

S: Light, faint coffee, chocolate, floral.

T: Follows the nose, with a stronger flavor than smell. Coats the tongue, with a bitter hop, and a peppery coffee/chocolate malt.

M: Long finish, bitter, and nice for an IIPA.

O: Going to have to get a second one and try it in six-months to a year.

I had a pretty damn rough day at work today, so I'll make this one quick. Some Strange is a delicious Black IPA that has to be very awkward to ask a bartender for. The hops are in perfect balance with the malts - easily the best big Black IPA I've had since Stone 15th. Probably worth buying for the ridiculous story on the bottle alone.
