Tried on-tap at the Quarrymans Hotel in Pyrmont.

Pours a clear syrup-golden colour with a decent if slightly filmy white head. Clarity is good, and the body is quite light and clean. Minimal retention to the head. Possibly the Sydney humidity accounts for that.

Nose is quite syrupy: sugar sweetness tinged with an afterthought of biscuit character and some true malt. There's a German grain character to it at least, which gives some brusqueness. Hint of resin comes through with some pine and gingerbread. It's a little weird, but not bad.

Light palate with some faint brusqueness to give it an edge. There's bite on the back, again with the ginger and spice which is slightly too wacky. It's clean though, letting its lager character run through pleasantly. Slight Pride of Ringwood on the finish gives it a touch of woodiness—it runs through to the end leaving it feeling a bit harsh but not leaving much flavour. Still, the lager wins out, meaning it stays quite clean.

Feel is very light. It works well enough.

It's mostly just inoffensive. The spice characters are a bit weird, but the malt is solid enough to make me buy that it's really an Oktoberfestbier. It's a bit dull, but it does the job decently enough.
