Stopped into The Mitten Bar the other week with my brother. the Mitten carries only Michigan products; i.e. beer, wine liquor and they had a limited food menu of pizza and snacks.

The atmosphere is a little weird, it is attached to the bar next door and shares bathroom with it, I think it was called the sportsman. The guy working at the bar said that they are run off of the same liquor license. There are two big TVs in the bar and the overflow football crowd filled the bar.

The Mitten had a good selection of beers on like, a cask of Founders Harvest, Bells Third Coast, and stuff from Shorts, Brewery Vivant and most of the other big hitters in MI. They also had a good bottle list. The only real issue was the extremely cold temps the beers were kept at.

Service was good for only having one person bartending and serving the full bar which isn't huge but there could have been on more server to help out.

THis a great stop if our in the Ludington area not quite a destination but a great spot on the away to your destination.

My wife and I stopped during an overnight in Ludington. I was disappointed that they had just finished their keg of Short's Huma Lupa Licious IPA, which has long been a favorite and is only available in Michigan. This was my first trip back to the state in 3 years. Anyway, the selection was OK. The bartender was friendly and helpful (and apologetic -- he gave me a sample of the beer I substituted). The food was pretty good, though we ate it in the whiskey bar (Barley & Rye) that was through the connecting (open) door. The credit card receipt ultimately showed up as a third place altogether (Sportsman's, I think).

Fantastic taphouse located in beautiful downtown Ludington! Not a huge selection on tap, but a plethora of can and bottles, all brewed in Michigan! Plus, just for kicks, a full bar.

Mitten Bar is one of the friendliest places you'll ever go. It seems like there are a fair number of regulars who are in there frequently, but there is no feeling (at all) of being unwelcome. The beer selection is quite large, a bit surprisingly as they only serve Michigan products at the Mitten, but Michigan has a large craft beer community so they have a lot to choose from. The Mitten generally has a few kegs of beer, plus they serve a large range of bottled and canned beers, many of them from Bells, Founders, New Holland and the like, but also quite a few from smaller brewers you may not have heard of. All in all, well worth a stop.

We were in Ludington last week on vacation and stopped in here a couple of times. I thought it would be a good opportunity to try some different Michigan beers on tap in one place. Unfortunately, the Thursday before they had a Founders tap takeover and when we showed up on Monday, 8 of the 12 taps still had Founders on them. Too many of them were not beers that were conducive to sitting at a bar and having several beers. Add to that Founders isn't my favorite brewery (I know that's sacrilege, but to each his own), and one of the taps being a cider and it was disappointing.

That being said, I still liked the place. Nice atmosphere, and a friendly knowledgeable staff. We go to Ludington every couple of years ad I'm sure I'll be back.

This place has fast become one of my favorite stops in Ludington. Serving only Michigan products might seem limiting, but Brian and Megan have stocked the Mitten quite well. There is always something new to sample. They often get their hands on some very limited and special items. Blushing Monk appeared on the tap list out of nowhere last year so I made a trip up north to visit.
Michigan is home to some of the best brews anywhere. This bar gets their hands on most of them. Brian's passion for beer and everything Michigan is infective. Stop in for a cold one your next time in Ludington, you won't be disappointed.
