22 oz bomber bottle. Label depicts a rather dark ghoulish monk writing at desk with a purple background. Foamer. Rich burnt copper, rusty color. Huge, tightly bubbled small beige head. Some toasted malty smells, lots of sticky lacing on the glass. Clearly more malt dominated. Some sticky sweetness and carmel malt undertones. Faint hops, but some finish. Tastes like a cross between and ESB minus the hops and a Belgian Ale. Surprised to see it really is an Amber/Red Ale. Some decent flavors, light to medium bodied, easy to drink and satisfying. A long ago donated sample by the Belgianbum.

Appearance: Amber caramel, with only a thin veil of lace.

Smell: It smelled like a '70s era beauty salon, industrial strength nail polish and wet, frizzy, over-permed hair. Also throw in there some kind of spirit varnish or lacquer. Pe-eww.

Taste: Stale, acrid and without any body or appeal whatsoever. I really hope we got a bad bottle because if this was what the brewer was going for, it wasn't worth the trouble of bottling it. The other reviews look quite positive, so I'll give the benefit of the doubt. Only a few sips were needed to decide that this one was a drainer.

On the pour a pellucid burnished copper to sanguineous color, the head is fairish in size, creamy in texture and the color a nice light tan. A bit of yeast, plum like more like it with a sweet malt backing, a tolerable nose, start is richly malt, lightly sweet, and the top middling in its feel to the palate. Finish is robustly carbonated; the hops present but not overpowering, dry and somewhat sour aftertaste, a drinkable beer, great no, but a decent beer in its on right.

Apppearnce: this pours a clear amber color. Like all the beers I sampled at Redfish, this one too came with no head.
The flavors of the beer are definitely in the genre of the trappist ales. you can taste the candy sugar a bit. For a brewpub's effort, this was a reasonable rendition of a belgian

This is More like a Belgian double or a fruity Flanders red than any American Amber I have ever had. It pours a reddish copper color with a small beige head. The smell is of sweet malts and dark fruits and cloves. The taste is dominated by malts and fruits and then yeast. Caramel malt, sugar, cherries and plums a hint of banana then berries and a touch of wood with only a sprinkle of floral hops showing through the clove spice. (seems more Belgian than American IMO) The mouthfeel is a medium body that has light carbonation, (very small tight bubbles giving it a unique feel) along with the medicinal throat lozenge finish. Drinkability is adequate. Tasty, but one bomber is enough.

Got this in a 22 oz bomber for $6.79. A bit pricey, but I hadn't seen it around before and was curious. I gathered from the name that it was a Belgian Ale of sorts, but there's not much info about the beer on the label. I had to check the website to discover this is a Belgian Amber Ale. That explains the color, I guess, which is about as amber as you can get. Not much of a head, starts off with a thin rough coating of uneven bubbles, but this soon dissipates into nothingness, leaving not so much as a thin sheet of lace to remember it by. Aroma is fairly mild, a bit of sweet malt with just a hint of banana and spice. Caramel sweet malt really dominates the flavor, too, developing a certain fruitiness as the beer warms. Spiciness is there, but very understated and it doesn't really show up until the finish, which has hints of black pepper and cloves, with a fair amount of floral hop presence. The beer is medium-bodied, a bit thin for my taste, but probably not out of line with the amber style. No ABV on the bottle, but I was feeelin' it by the time I finished the bottle. Not a bad beer, but not one of the most exciting belgian-style ales produced in the States, either.

A confusing beer. Once I got through a few sips, I began to doubt any Belgian character that the waitress explained. Any acidity, estery, phenolic notes that are usually found in Belgian style beers were muted out of existence in this beer. But some reviews detect some Belgian-like character despite the beer being listed as an American Amber. Regardless, the malt profile is middle-the-road and takes on a light, fully-attenuated caramel, toffee, toasty character. The hops are too light for an American, but the grapefruity type seems right. Estery berries and apples rise on occations, giving the beer some extra variety. Medium in the body and malty in the finish. My take is that this beer has a Belgian note, but not enough to fully capture the style. Still, too funky to be the clean American style. But not a bad beer by any means.

The beer pours a dark amber color with a thin offwhite head that quickly fades with no retention. The aroma is good. It has a nice malty scent that boasts of pale and crystal malts along with a slight warmness and some raisin notes. The taste is good also. It has a solid malt bill that is complex and stacked. It boasts of pale and crystal malts along with a some fruity esters and a warm finish. This seems a little too strong for a normal amber/red ale. It almost has the feel of a dubbel. The mouthfeel is fine. It is a medium/full bodied beer with good carbonation. This is a fine brew. It has a rich, complex appeal; a fine sessions beer.

22 oz. bottle. Picked this up in Boulder, CO. Not available here in Wichita.

Appearance: This beer was a deep copper color with a light tan head that easily rose up to two fingers. There was a heavy bead that sustained a thin cap of bubbles on top of the brew after the head had dissipated. Just a few freckles of lace were left behind on the side of the glass. My second pour produced a thicker, fuller head that lingered longer and left a ton of lace behind.

Smell: Right after the pour, this beer had a malty aroma that was highlighted softly by some light Belgian characteristics. After the head died down and I took a few more sniffs, it became even more Belgian-like. Sweet apples, grapes, and bananas with hints of sour, green apples gave the smell a very fruity component. Alcohol, spicy yeast, and cloves countered these. It came across like apple cider at times. Overall, round and sweet with a light, spicy kick and a hint of sour. My second pour unleashed a much stronger, musty yeast aroma.

Mouthfeel: Light- to medium-bodied. Not chewy, but it had a good, round feeling to it. Very smooth, becoming fuzzy in the back of the mouth.

Taste: Light, sweet malt and sugar hit the tongue upfront but were immediately overshadowed by lightly vinous white grapes. Some banana came through in the middle. The finish was spicy yeast and a light bitterness. Well into the aftertaste was roasted and cracker-like malt and a hint of diacetyl.

An odd but good brew. After writing this review I checked out their website to see what they said about this beer . . .

Well, a Belgian amber is a new one to me. But, I would classify it between a Belgian dark and pale, so maybe they're on to something. Plus, the banana and clove flavors and aromas cought me off guard. But hey, who cares. A really good beer that throws classic styles out the window.

A cloudy amber color with a lacking head. Nice Belgian yeasts and candy malts. Taste is very similar to the aroma good sweet malts and Belgian spices. Medium body with light carbonation. A tasty double style ale and a fine drinker. This is not an American Amber as labeled by the bros.

Dark Orange.

Medicines in the aroma along with burnt banana bread, bready malts, toffee, almonds and dark fruits (cherries and plums).

Tastes of dark fruits, dark candy sugars and caramel, most flavors usually involved in the style. This just wasn't big enough an it had a pretty thin mouthfeel.

$3.49 for a 22 oz bomber purchased in Boulder, CO.

This is Belgian Dubbel (or Strong Dark Ale more generically), not an American Amber or Red Ale (who got that idea?). Pours out to a slightly hazy dark amber, requiring a hefty pour to form a modest beige head with average retention and nice sticky lacing. Carbonation is mild-moderate. The aroma is dominated by spicy strong phenols, cloves, and overripe bananas as it should for the style. The mouthfeel is relatively mellow given the mild carbonation with a smooth finish and medium body. The taste is very good...initially spicy and phenolic, followed by a moderate herbal hop bitterness, an medicinal metal note which quickly recedes into a toasty middle. More mild bitterness towards the end and lingering toast and wood in the finish. Easy to drink with a clean finish. Imperceptable alcohol, no off flavors...I'm guessing 7% ABV.

A nice find..slightly different for the style but quite enjoyable. This beer reminds me in almost every way of Dark Horse Belgian Amber Ale, which is a compliment.
