Notes / Commercial Description:
As craft beer pioneers, we embarked on an expedition to brew the benchmark West Coast IPA. We ventured into the unknown and struck gold, discovering a tantalizing menagerie of hops. Simcoe for tropical and grapefruit zest, Columbus for hop pungency, Centennial for pine notes, Citra for citrus zest and Cascade for floral aroma are layered throughout the brewing process. West Coast IPA® exemplifies the Green Flash spirit of adventure and discovery.

11-28-15 - On tap at Water Grill in Santa Monica after USC defeated UCLA. Still one of my favorites and nice to have on tap just up the coast. Went well with my oysters an spicy ciopino. Whenever this is on tap, I get it.

Served - Bottle poured into a Speiglau IPA glass, enjoy by March 2014.

Appearance - A deep amber. A little too dark for an IPA. One finger head with low carbonation.

Smell - Earthy hops, somewhat floral. Not a very strong smell at all.

Taste - Slightly bitter hops in the front with a malt presence on the finish.

Mouthfeel - Full on the tongue with a little carbonation dancing. Malt lingers.

Overall - It was a very solid and drinkable representation of the style. For something calling itself a west coast IPA, I was expecting much more citrus notes and less malt. It's a good beer but not a great beer. I felt the smell was very lacking.

Amber orange in color with a bit of cloudiness. A millimeter thin layer of foam rests on top. I've had this before but it's been awhile. Fantastic intense grapefruit like hop aroma. Best smelling IPA I know of. Pretty smooth mouthfeel with a bit of hop stickiness. Intense hop flavor is well balanced with a light malt backbone. Love this.
