As craft beer pioneers, we embarked on an expedition to brew the benchmark West Coast IPA. We ventured into the unknown and struck gold, discovering a tantalizing menagerie of hops. Simcoe for tropical and grapefruit zest, Columbus for hop pungency, Centennial for pine notes, Citra for citrus zest and Cascade for floral aroma are layered throughout the brewing process. West Coast IPA® exemplifies the Green Flash spirit of adventure and discovery.

Slightly hazy, orangish color. Nicely formed head, over an inch of loose white foam that reduced slowly while leaving a tight netting of lace on the glass. Really not much else to ask for.

Intense hop aroma for an IPA. Lots of citrus, pine and some floral overtones. I could smell this forever...big hop aroma, not really much malt comes through though...no prob though.

Big hops again, lots of pine and resin but there is a lack of malts to balance this out. Nice bitterness in the end though that isn't overpowering...good but a bit unbalanced. No alcohol flavors either...

Mouthfeel falls a bit short, its a touch thin in my opinion...a bit more body and this would come up quite a bit. Carbonation levels are kinda low but don't cause any detriment anywhere.

Good drinkability. This is a nice bitter beer with a ton of hops...pretty easy to put down.

Pours amber, thick white foam. Retention is excellent, with lacing throughout.

Aroma is extremely hoppy.

Taste is big on the hops with a malt backing that balances it out rather well. Hops level on this one..superb.

Mouthfeel is creamy and medium bodied.

Drinkability? Hops could get a bit harsh on you, but I could have another one...but it isn't really made to be a drinkable bear. Its made to rip your face off.

Appearance: Nice golden brown color, good white head, leaves great lacing

Smell: Full of pine, resin, citrus, and floral hops

Taste: Pine and resin hops are up front and in your face. They make no apologies. But, if you can make it through that, you'll notice some more delicate hop tones in there as well, next you get to citrus. Then, floral hops come through. There is a nice malt backbone in there to stand up to the massive hops

Mouthfeel: Medium body, good carbonation

Overall: This brew is excellent. A top rated beer for sure. Gladly will pick up again as long as it is on the fresh side. This has a best by date of 7/30/14, so I'm assuming that means this is 2 months old.
