Notes / Commercial Description:
As craft beer pioneers, we embarked on an expedition to brew the benchmark West Coast IPA. We ventured into the unknown and struck gold, discovering a tantalizing menagerie of hops. Simcoe for tropical and grapefruit zest, Columbus for hop pungency, Centennial for pine notes, Citra for citrus zest and Cascade for floral aroma are layered throughout the brewing process. West Coast IPA® exemplifies the Green Flash spirit of adventure and discovery.

Nice orange body with some reddish hues, and a great white head that sticks and clings to the glass all the way down.
Beautiful grassy, herbal, hoppy nose. Some citrus in there as well, grapefruity and lemony.
The taste follows wonderfully. Great smooth full body feel. The hop flavor is amazing, herbal, citrusy, grassy and crisp. The malt is there but any sweetness is overpowered by the great hop character.

A fantastic IPA, from a guy who loves IPAs.

A: Golden, rust, cloudy with hardly any carbonation. Almost no head at all.
S: Hops, Citris fruits like grapefruit and lemon. Textbook IPA
T: Bitterness up front with a lingering grapefruit flavor. Again Textbook IPA
M: Classic IPA mouthfeel with overall crisp bitterness on the tongue.
O: If you were to create a model IPA and serve it to someone who has never had one, this would be a good one to start with. Very good, with nothing off putting about it. But at the same time, there is nothing that puts it on the next level that makes it truly unique.

Poured into an IPA glass. Appearance is cloudy caramel, with a giant off-white, almost cola-colored head that has to spend a few minutes making its way down to the surface of the liquid. Lots of bubbles rising up to the top. Color is darker than expected - pretty dark for the style... not sure if that's an augur of a maltier backbone than usual.

Smell is interesting. It smells quite a bit sweeter than I expected. There's some citrusy hops in there, but they're kind of overtaken by this sweet cotton-candy note. At first I thought I was smelling soap on my hands or something, but that's not the case. Maybe I'm crazy or something.

And the hops make up for their lack of presence on the aroma once the beer makes it to your palate. Up front is a huge citrusy, tropical-fruit kick that is a very pleasant surprise. Mid-palate, that cotton-candy-esque flavor comes back to mingle with the hops, but still allowing them to take center stage. Really wonderful mix of malty and hoppy flavors. Finish is mildly bitter and dry - just enough to make you want to take another sip, but not over the top with it. And then the hops come back for a last hurrah on the aftertaste, leaving a nice orange-y flavor in your mouth.

Mouthfeel hits the style - moderate body, with lots of carbonation pricking your tongue.

Overall, super-great IPA that actually has a noticeable malt presence, while still retaining it's identity as an IPA.
