Notes / Commercial Description:
As craft beer pioneers, we embarked on an expedition to brew the benchmark West Coast IPA. We ventured into the unknown and struck gold, discovering a tantalizing menagerie of hops. Simcoe for tropical and grapefruit zest, Columbus for hop pungency, Centennial for pine notes, Citra for citrus zest and Cascade for floral aroma are layered throughout the brewing process. West Coast IPA® exemplifies the Green Flash spirit of adventure and discovery.

From a 355 ml bottle into a tulip. Tasted twice over two nights.

A-A normal pour produces a one and one-half finger head of pillowy, off-white foam. The retention is pour and lacing is marginal. The brew is hazy with an amber, honey color that is slightly darker than some IPAs.

S-The smell is a pleasant mixture of orange and grapefruit, as well as some pine, resin, and a bit of light, caramel malt. The malts are mostly overwhelmed by the hops here, but they provide a bit of counterpoint the massive hop aromas. Bitterness is moderate.

T-The taste is also full of delicious hop notes from tropical citrus to dank and piney. The brew opens with orange, tangerine, grapefruit citrus flavors and transitions to a drying, bitter, herbal finish. The finish is impressively long. Hops mostly overwhelm caramel malts, but the beer is not entirely out of whack.

F-The feel is soft and dank with a moderately oily feel. Carbonation is on the lighter side.

O-This may not be my favorite IPA, but this brew certainly stacks up well against the best of them. The mixture of hop flavors is really impressive with sweet citrus flavors blending into more bitter, herbal, pine flavors. The finish is also quite impressive for its staying power. My criticisms are minor and go mostly to looks, but I can get over them pretty easily to sip on this hop bomb of an IPA.
