Notes / Commercial Description:
As craft beer pioneers, we embarked on an expedition to brew the benchmark West Coast IPA. We ventured into the unknown and struck gold, discovering a tantalizing menagerie of hops. Simcoe for tropical and grapefruit zest, Columbus for hop pungency, Centennial for pine notes, Citra for citrus zest and Cascade for floral aroma are layered throughout the brewing process. West Coast IPA® exemplifies the Green Flash spirit of adventure and discovery.

look: 4.75 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 3 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4

Pours dark amber with 2 finger off-white head. Good retention and lacing. Aroma of pine resin, citrus zest, malts, pineapple and mango. Very malty with caramel and toffee notes. Huge pine resin on the back end that really sticks around. Full body with moderate carbonation, finishes super dry. That dry bitter finish compromises the drinkability. Overall it is a very well crafted and balanced IPA, but the bitter dry back end makes it less appealing in my IPA repertoire.

12 oz bottle into a pint glass
Bottled on: 5/7/13

A: Pours a clear, dark amber with 4 fingers width of off white colored head. Good retention and lots of segmental lacing.

S: Piney hops, citrus zest, sweet malts, dish soap, some tropical fruits like pineapple and mango.

T: Very malty, with big caramel and toffee notes. These are followed by piney hop bitterness on the back end. Really not much of a hop profile at all, just the pine on the finish.

M/D: Full bodied, lower carbonation, ABV well restrained, drinkability is average.

O: The hops from the nose dont come out in the taste. Not a bad beer but pretty disappointing. I dont think Id purchase this one again, not with so many great IPAs sitting on the shelves at any given time.
