Notes / Commercial Description:
As craft beer pioneers, we embarked on an expedition to brew the benchmark West Coast IPA. We ventured into the unknown and struck gold, discovering a tantalizing menagerie of hops. Simcoe for tropical and grapefruit zest, Columbus for hop pungency, Centennial for pine notes, Citra for citrus zest and Cascade for floral aroma are layered throughout the brewing process. West Coast IPA® exemplifies the Green Flash spirit of adventure and discovery.

I spent the whole day Geocaching, drinking beer, and having fun. It was a good day, and I wanted to finish with a good beer. Side poured lightly from the bottle into a Becks mug.

Appearance - Pours a deep copper color, very beautiful, with an impressive two finger head that could have been even bigger had I poured more aggressively. Fluffy head, good retention. Lacing is like glue up the sides of the glass. Presentation is outstanding.

Smell - I smelled it as I poured it, but as a pleasant surprise it had a much stronger malt backbone even in the nose than I would expect out of a brew with 95 IBU. I figured it would just be a hop assault, but I was wrong.

Taste - Amplify the nose and you have the taste. While of course there are strong currents of pine, citrus, and grapefruit from the powerful hops, this beer is remarkably well-balanced. There is a malt element throughout the drink, which makes it smooth and easily drinkable. As it warms it gets even smoother. Man this is a good beer.

Mouthfeel - Smooth smooth smooth. The warmer it gets, the easier it goes down. Medium carbonation, bitter aftertaste. Dy finish.

Overall - Although I was disappointed in the first beer I reviewed tonight, the Green Flash has more than redeemed the experience. This means that much more coming from someone who is not a hop head and doesn't drink IPA all that often. This is an exceptional beer no matter which way you look at it. I would strongly recommend this to intermediate level craft beer drinkers and above, as it may be too aggressive for a beginner, but it is outstanding. I can't say enough good things about it.
