Notes / Commercial Description:
As craft beer pioneers, we embarked on an expedition to brew the benchmark West Coast IPA. We ventured into the unknown and struck gold, discovering a tantalizing menagerie of hops. Simcoe for tropical and grapefruit zest, Columbus for hop pungency, Centennial for pine notes, Citra for citrus zest and Cascade for floral aroma are layered throughout the brewing process. West Coast IPA® exemplifies the Green Flash spirit of adventure and discovery.

Bottle: solid brown longneck, with an acceptable non-macro label.

Appearance: golden-orange in colour, with an immense head that drops to a 2-finger creamy head. Again, very impressive.

Aroma: not quite the hop overload of the Imperial IPA. More tropical hops - pineapple, grapefruit and pine.

Taste: unfortunately hasn't offered what the nose promised. Funnily enough, the nose is far stronger than the taste. Still a fair bit of hops, but it is somehow a bit muted, and doesn't sit in the mouth as other AIPAs do.

Aftertaste: definitely more of a citric and pine hops flavour lingering.

Mouth feel: mouth feel is pretty much spot-on. Reasonably thick with limited yet fine carbonation.

Overall: certainly not the best AIPA I have had - too much hop bitterness and not enough discernible flavour. But hey - not bad as either a sipper or a few gulps of ABV wipe-out.

12 oz. bottle poured into an unbranded cervoise glass

Pours a deep golden with abundant amber highlights and a bit of orangish hues. Huge, fluffy bright white head. Exceptional retention and a large amount of lacing. Fantastic nose, citrus blossoms, pineapple, light grapefruit rind accents, and just a touch of pine. Pineapple and mango, herbal notes, balanced perfectly by slightly sweet bready malt, and finishes with gentle and pleasant grapefruit rind bitterness. Heavy light bodied, to very light medium bodied, smooth and sliky and moderately carbonated. This brew is exceptionally balanced in almost every aspect. A nearly flawless west coast-style IPA.

Bitter but not a lot of complexity. Would be great with steak. Smells smoky. Appearance is dark amber but a little cloudy. Is a beer I could enjoy watching football or on date night with my wife. Enjoyed this beer at a bar but have never seen it at the grocery store. Great entry level beer.
