Acquired via trade from IntriqKen, so a big “Thank you” goes out to him. Poured from a 22oz. bottle into an imperial pint glass.

A: The beer is a light gold color with a short off-white head that fades very slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma is very fruity and very hoppy and the two are quite nicely blended with a good malt background.

T: The taste is very-well balanced with a strong hops bitterness and a heavy citrus sweetness. The malt character is hearty but not too heavy. The after-taste is slightly bitter. Nothing much more to say except that it’s just a damn flavorful beer.

M: Very crisp and very smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, clean and dry finish.

D: Very tasty, goes down quite easily, not very filling, excellent representation of style, great kick, this beer has everything that you look for in a 2IPA. It’s a great beer that I could drink until the 9.00% ABV catches up with me.

Drinking from a batch that was bottle the 25th of June and this is exceptional. This is truly the West Coast IPA on steroids. The nose was heavily infected with hops. The taste was extremely bitter, I was really hoping for this in this beer, because past bottles haven't been anything special. This was the first time that I was able to find a batch date on the case that it came from. I can only speculate that the others were not as fresh as this. This was AWESOME!

Heard alot about this beer and finally got my hands on a couple bottles.

A: Orange copper color.

S: Fruity and piney hop aroma.

T: Hop balance is really nice. Mix of fruity, piney, and spicy.

M: Med body, fair head retention.

D: This beer lived up to my expectations. Spicy, fruity, piney hop complexity. Went down smooth and I will drink it whenever I see it.

No date on bomber. None of the new GF beers to arrive in Atlanta seem to have any dating indicated. Very annoying.

Appearance--whatever, nothing to twitter about.

The aroma, taste, and mouthfeel are fantastic. A balanced yet kick-ass DIPA with unwieldy hops in it tamed by the master brewers at GF. Great combination of vegetal Summit with resiny-fruity Nugget.

Why this does not get as much praise as the somewhat similar Sucks is beyond me. This is better, with the disparate elements coming together more harmoniously.

A great DIPA. Gotta try it.

This Double IPA was enjoyed on New Years Eve 2010, from a 22 oz bottle into a chilled glass.

The appearance has the classic IPA look; gold and robust with a moderate foam head. The beer maintained a little bit of a frothy top all the way through the end of the bottle.

The smell really surprised me - some significant citrus-sweet apricot/tangerine flavors along with a hoppy scent that tells me this beer isn't for the weak at heart.

The taste is just... Wow! Super hoppy with the aroma and taste of the sweet citrus flavors making this one of the very best beers I've ever had.

The Green Flash Imperial is very drinkable for fans of the Double IPAs. Impressive! Fantastic! I can't say enough...

This beer is fantastic! For an Imperial IPA, it drinks much lighter than 9.4%. This beer tastes citrusy, like biting into a fresh Lemon with a silky smooth soft yet bitter aftertaste. I picked this up on a recent trip to LA and will seek it out again.

The color and clarity of this beer for an imperial IPA are amazing.

The way they use these high alpha acid hops is extremely creative. I don't think i have ever seen a lighter IPA, let a lone an imperial IPA than this version. This is one of my new favorite beers.

For 9%+ ABV its very drinkable and could probably consume a few. The hops don't totally destroy your taste buds and its welll balanced.

The aroma is above average but it had an unbelievable POP it could be one of the best overall.

I don't review beers all that much but this one really impressed me.

Picked up a 22oz bomber from Whole Foods.

A: Pours golden yellow with a perfect white one inch head (higher fluffy head if you are aggressive). Looks exactly like what a west cost IPA should look like with no doubt they have an emphasis on the hops.

S: Grapefruit/pineapple, fresh, I can't wait to try it at this point. it looks great and the smell is fabulous.

T: Wonderful, the perfect balance for my palate. A great hop kick from the flavor and aroma hops (summit and nugget) but it is not overbitter. Very juicy and makes me want more!

D: I could drink this on a daily basis and the +9% abv I can not find. A very drinkable IIPA and I hope to find some more because this was a fantastic beer. Go pick some up or trade for a fresh bottle because this is a great beer.

Cooper and clear, nice head good retention and great lacing. Smell is citrus. taste is good, the hops are pleasant not overwhelming. The body is where this beer is great, the malt is sticky and thick. Nice body. Overall, at 9.4% abv this beer hides the alcohol, delivers on taste and satisfaction.

The bottle does not have a date on it but the case had a 11-7 date on it. Pretty fresh. 22oz bottle poured into my HOTD tulip.

Appearance- Clear golden orange with a big off yellowish head. Lots of lacing. 4.5/5

Smell- Big pine aroma with sweet malt backing it up. 4.5/5

Taste- Great pine trees, Batman! Lots of pine and less of a sweet malt background than the smell. 5/5

Mouthfeel- Perfectly even. Right down the middle of thin and thick. 5/5

Overall- I love Green Flashes regular IPA and this is just as great only bigger. 5/5

I could break this down further... but here is the Reader's Digest version.

For $6.99 and sometimes $5.99 here in San Diego, this IIPA/DIPA is one of the best.

Consistent, skunky smell, crazy hop taste with a strong pine and grapefruit.

For those reading this and preparing to taste, be sure to review.

Hazy glow to the amber red to pumpkin orange color, even through the gauziness you can see the bubbles lifting into the cream colored, thick head which stays past closing time. Sweet, fruity nose of apricot, peach, pear fruit as well as tangerine juice, pine needles, brioche and a bundle of meadow grasses and flowers, attractive fullness while retaining clarity of elements, Full-bodied, spicy, citrusy attack with cumin, garlic flavors next to orange, white grapefruit notes. The carbonation shows verve to break through the overall density and oily texture. While certainly hoppy, not bitter, no pucker, more like an exfoliation. Pine, tar resin, fresh milk, coffee grinds, wax, enjoyable for its ability to change sip to sip. Anvil sits on your tongue long after you've swallowed.

I will be drinking this as long as the store carries it.

A: Dark golden coloring with medium lacing.

S: Smells pretty malty, but it still cant hides the hops in this Imperial IPA

M: Medium carbonation, very stringent. Bitter, but "Duh."

D: If you like high IBU's then you are good with this. I want lots, I wish I had more.

Loved it.

pours beautiful, massive head and sticky lacing with the usual mind-blowing imperial flaxen-orangey clarity. just looks world class.

the nose reveals the tart sweet citrus herbal camphor that lines the skull of any hophead. great balance here. i get it all in one whiff. something even more pungent and ethereally sweet here...

just simply so full-bodied, luscious, balanced, herbal, tangy-tart not as grapefruity but perfect enough for that. i actually had the first lager glass of this cold with my chile relleno ... now that it warmed up a bit, it's richly exploding with flavors that would be stellar cooled down...

drinkable? is that a koan?

so recommended....

Copied from another reviewer (hagbergl)
Loved the smell and taste on this exquisite IIPA
would certainly drink again...

Appearance (4.5/5): Green Flash Imperial pours a beautiful golden yellow that has a slight haze to it. It's topped by a bone white head of foam that measures about 1.5 fingers (by the time it gets to our table). The head leaves a nice bit of lacing on the sides of the glass as it recedes.

Smell (5/5): Big pine and grapefruit hop notes escape from the glass. Some herbal hop notes and earthier tones from the subdued malts and yeast character also show, but this is a super hoppy beer so the hop aromas are naturally–and pleasingly–dominant. I'm convinced that the smell of this beer is what hop heads dream about.

Taste (5/5): In one word: delicious. The taste follows the nose for the most part. Huge pine and citrus (grapefruit) hop flavors steal the show from the get-go. Fruity, tart, and spicy hops are supported by a a subtle caramel malt backbone that adds just the right amount of sweetness. Finishes bitter and quite dry. The aftertaste is–curiously–similar to weed (the flavor comes out of nowhere, really). Hardly any alcohol presence to this beer, which is great, since alcohol flavors do not usually, in my humble opinion, add much to IPAs (unlike some heavy stouts and Belgian ales whose flavor profiles benefit). The flavor of this beer is just bitter bliss and a total hop fix. This is one classy, finely tuned Imperial IPA.

Mouthfeel (4.5/5): Green Flash Imperial is medium-bodied, though not very viscous or hop oily. Medium carbonation helps accentuate the hoppiness and lets the bitterness 'pop'.

Overall (5/5): This is a perfect example of a Double/Imperial IPA. It retains the dryness and medium-low sweetness of a regular IPA while reaching a beautifully in-your-face amount of bitter, fruity hop character only possible in a DIPA, and without becoming syrupy sweet or overly resinous and cloying. Just an amazing beer I wish I could find more often. Highly, highly recommended to lovers of the hop.

A: murky golden , nice thick healthy head upon hearty pour. beautiful! Just like I like it!

S: Hoppy classic grapefruit IPA scent. Little bread n' butter in the background.

T: A masterful blend of hoppy bitterness, malty sweetness, and bready heartiness. This beer dances on the tongue. Fantastic!

M: As this sloshes around your mouth, the 9.4 % APV is not what you are thinking about. The alcohol is amazingly masked, and the carbonation is subtle, yet present.

D: I am shocked how smooth and drinkable this is at 9.4%. Some of my favorite DIPA's are not nearly this drinkable as the alcohol smacks you in the face, not here. Dangerously drinkable...

Fantastic beer!

Appearance - thick golden yellow

Smell - Amazing, smelled like piny nuggets. It's the craziest thing.

Taste - It is perfectly balanced in hops, the bitterness is right on point. Great aftertaste as well.

Mouthfeel - pretty smooth, not too much bite, but some.

Overall - My favorite IIPA. I prefer it over Double Trouble - which is a great beer. Green Flash has great beers

This is a very impressive Imperial IPA for sure, and I'd definitely seek it out again. As most reviewers seem to agree, the west coast hoppiness is good, and not overdone. Seems just right to me. The alcohol isn't all that detectable for it's 9%, and you will feel it. There is balance in the malts too. I think I have to give this an A at least AND, I'd suggest this is the PERFECT beer to go with some spicy buffalo wings! Bring'em!

This beer poured a light amber color with a white head that lasted the entire beer with a better than average amount of lacing. The smell was a very floral smell with hints of citrus and a slight hint a malt. The smell was terrific, my only criticism would be that I would want the smell to be stronger. Maybe my bottle was older, not sure but the smell was great.

The taste of this beer was all hops, very intense but not overpowers. A hop heads dream. The hops were still balanced nicely with a slight bitter malt and the after taste was very hop bitter. The mouthfeel was good with the CO2 possibly being a little too strong, but the thickness was great.

Wow, my first beer from Green Flash and I will add this to my favorites list. I always feel when you pour a double IPA and it is light in color, that it will either be a mediocre IPA or a superb hoppy dream and the later is what you will get from this beer.

The beer has comes in an amber/orange color.

The aroma is peachy, grapefruit, and citrus aroma and very dank.

The flavor is hugely peach, grapefruit with a slight pine dryness. It’s very juicy with its hop character. There is a bready sweet malt to finish it out.

The body is medium/light to make it really drinkable.

The beer is very smooth, easy drinking, yet quite complex. I’m really surprised by how well this beer held up because it was bottled November 2012 when I had this. I’ve had two of the same batch, and despite it being over 6 months, the hops still hold. I didn’t really get any “old” hop flavors.

This one really blew me away and is going up there with my favorite Double IPAs. This is underrated in my mind and I really recommend it.

Pouring from a 22oz bottle into a Guiness pint glass.

A...Pours a hazy orange color with a creamy, three finger head. Noticeable med size bubbles comprise head that slowly recedes to, and maintains a perfect 1/2" head with layered lacing. Lacing is like a line mark on glass for each sip.

S...Great bouquet on the nose. Very complex aroma. Picking up earthy notes with pine, citrus and maybe a bit of grass. Smells very nice.

T...Great. Getting hops right up front like I should expect in an Imperial ipa. Hops with a quickly fading bitterness that turns a bit malty sweet with a swallow and finishes with the earthiness that I could smell with the pour. Really a great, full flavor beer.

M...as good as it gets. Full feel with the perfect carbonation. Really works on all levels.

O... This is a spectacular beer. Very robust and complex while maintaining a perfect balance. The taste changes from hitting your lips to the finish. Complex in all the right ways, a lot going on in this one. Nearly a perfect dipa.
I will seek this out over and over again when I want to really enjoy a great beer. I will look forward to pairing this with a cigar in the future. I think it will go nice with something not too strong, maybe a Punch Champion or anything with a corojo or natural shade capa.

Buy this beer, enjoy.
