Need more Green Flash in my life; here’s their Imperial IPA. Cheers!

A: Translucent copper with a noticeable shimmer, adorned with a full, fizzy head of uneven suds – lots of dips in the valley of off-white cream. Chunky webs of lacing decorate the glass.

S: Absolutely dank, with a pungent tone of pine resin, juicy grapefruit, tangerine, and fresh pineapple. Slap this in my car as an air freshener and I’d be a happy man; it’s the scent of pure American hops. Hops are a tad woody on the end, like a mix of grass and cedar, while a little of the caramel cream and toast flavors of the malt appear.

T: Most definitely on the sweet side of the spectrum. Every sip is a venture into a syrupy palate of canned peaches, caramel candy, creamy vanilla, and orange marmalade. Hops don’t bite enough to distract, but rather add to the viscosity with a taste of tongue-drenching pine sap and cooked pineapple. The kick comes in the form of an herbal DIPA dryness, like astringent green tea with lemon rind, sage, and clove. It’s a little too much for me, tasting artificial matched up against the predominant sweetness of the palate – it’s too thick, too oily. Finishes with a pithy orange dryness, along with a rush of rich syrupiness, making this a definite sipper.

M: As expected, this beer is massive in texture as well as taste. The carbonation is nearly non-existent, with the mouthfeel’s emphasis being on a creamy thickness. Very slow-drinking because of that.

O: Beer that’s almost too much for me – no, it IS too much for me. This tastes like Dreadnaught’s twin brother, and that just happens to be a beer I don’t think I’ll ever buy again; some beers are just too sweet for me to fully enjoy, and this is one of them. In all, though, the hops are well-represented (especially in the nose), and there’s a lot I like about this beer – if you like your DIPAs wrapped in a big, sweet package, drink up!

A: poured from a 22 oz bottle into a pint glass, amber colored with a white head that lingers leaving good lacing, slightly hazy

S: earthy musty hop aromas, pine resin, honey, citrus

T: big bitter hop flavor up front, sweetens slightly in the middle. finish is dry pine hop resin

M: full bodied, alcohol well hidden, higher carbonation

O: a solid DIPA but Palate Wrecker is better
