Le Freak® is the first-ever hybrid ale of its kind: the convergence of a Belgian-Style Trippel with an American Imperial IPA. This zesty Amarillo dry-hopped, bottle-conditioned marvel entices with fruity Belgian yeast aromatics and a firm, dry finish. Aromas of orange and passion fruit with sweet bready malts, and flavors of orange marmalade and citrus fruit pith. Experience a legendary beer.

22 oz. bottle poured into Chimay chalice. No visible freshness date.
"Extreme ale converging San Diego-style imperial pale ale and Belgian-style trippel." Hot damn. Love DIPAs and love tripels...so this should be right in my wheelhouse.
A: Very slightly hazy orange...essentially the same color as the Green Flash Imperial IPA. Head is similar, as well. Starts off as a one-finger white head but soon dissipates. There is a nice lacing that sticks around for the entirety of the drink, though.
S: Smellin' some grapefruit hops and belgian yeast. It smells pretty sweet....like a tripel mixed with an IPA (go figure.)
T: Hops are pretty subdued here....much, much less intense than the Imperial IPA. Essentially the hops are more of an underlying base and not the main attraction. The yeast, sugar, and malt are pretty prevalent. The taste is extremely Belgian with some hops in the background. It's quite sweet. My lips stick together after the liquid dries...this definitely did NOT happen with the DIPA. There is also a subtle bitterness that sticks around for awhile.
M: Creamy, full-bodied....addicting. The Belgian beers have a certain quality to them that provide such an excellent mouthfeel. It's hard to explain, but it's just....awesome!
O: Yum! This essentially takes two of my favorite beer styles and takes the best aspects of each one. What's not to like? It's hoppy, bitter, and malty like an IPA, but it's sweet and yeasty like a tripel. Honestly, this is my first foray into the style, so I'm comparing this to their Imperial IPA, which I had last night and what I'm guessing is the IPA they used in this brew. It shares a lot of the aspects of the Imperial IPA, but it's less intense. The tripel really balances it out. I'm definitely digging this more than their Imperial IPA.

1 pt. 6 fl.oz. bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 9.2%. Deep golden colour, slightly hazy, with a big white (or slightly off-white) head. Lovely aroma of Belgian ale yeast, white candi sugar and various spices (incl cloves), hints of leather. The flavour is spicy and zesty with a solid hoppy punch throughout, but I’d never have guessed that the IBU was as high as 101. Mixing Belgian and American ale styles is not always successful, but I think Le Freak is a very good try.

Murky yellow color.
Huge white head; strong lacing throughout.
Clove nose; fresh bread notes as well.
Medium mouthfeel.
Muted clove taste; hops smack your lips with bitterness. Booze well hidden.
Pretty tasty; not life changing.

Pours an opaque orange gold with 2 fingers of off-white, soap bubble foamy, lasting head that leaves wonderful sheets of lacing. Aroma is lemon/lime sherbet, Belgian yeast, banana and hop tones of floral, pine and citrus backed up by sweet caramel malt. Taste is banana pop sickle, hoppy bitter notes of pine and citrus, a menagerie of Belgian yeast and sugar balanced with caramel malt sweetness. Finishes with an odd combination of butter, spice and pepper, Aftertaste is bitter and distinctly chalky. Superbly balance for what is an astronomically complex brew. Touche Green Flash!

[Original rating 2016-01-16] Clear orange gold with a medium white head. Aroma of pepper, stone fruit, grass. Taste is spicy, black pepper, fruit, flowers, very complex. Reminds me of Epic Brainless IPA, but though I like the Epic, Green Flash just does it better in every way.
