On-tap at the brewery so why the hell not? Golden color , slight spicy smell. The taste was clean with a little spiciness but very refreshing. This would be an awesome summer beer for barbecues and sitting outside. Nice stuff but that is not surprising for Green Flash.

I am going to assume that 'Saison Diego' is another name for the Summer Saison. If not, let me know.

A - Murky wheat, stark white large head. Lots of cascading bubbles. Some foamy lace.

S - Barny, small malt profile, spicy citrus.

T - Ginger and orange peel is definitely apparent in layers of this straw like, lightly funked beer.

M - Light, medium body, good carb, good balance.

D - Easy drinker for sure!

(had this on draught at the brewery in Vista). Pours golden with thick white head. Nice lacing. Aroma is grassy, hay, spices. Taste is semi-sweet with some dry bitterness. Light bodied with thin and oily texture. Finish is bitter. This was ok, but I could see having it when it warms up here in Arizona and I'm in the mood for a saison.

A: The beer is slightly hazy yellow in color and has a light amount of carbonation. It poured with a finger high bright white head that quickly died down leaving some lacing on the surface in the center of the glass and a ring of bubbles around the edge.
S: The smell is mostly filled with aromas of orange peel and has notes of spices (from the grains of paradise) and hints of grassy hops.
T: The taste has an interesting contrast between initial flavors of oranges and fruity yeast (with hints of grainy malts) and then a light amount of bitterness and spiciness in the finish.
M: It feels relatively light-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation. There are some hints of dryness in the finish.
O: This beer is very easy to drink and has some refreshing properties. It would be a good choice for a hot summer day.

Stunning brew. Crisp, bright and session able. I have had this on tap at various San Diego pubs in 2008 and it has been consistently excellent. Superior example of the classic farmhouse ale with a light, clean finish and a touch of orange and spice. This was in decent circulation last spring and summer but resurfaced as a welcome surprise in the fall at the Linkery. Perfect kick off to an evening and pairs well with spicy sausage tacos.

On tap at the Green Flash tasting room on 7/10/09.

A - Hazy pale golden/straw-colored body with a light fluffy white head that settled into a patchy film and left lots of sticky, bubbly foam around the glass.

S - Spicy aroma with a mild funky presence suggesting hay, pepper and earthy notes. Some bitter herbal notes also emerged as the liquid warmed up.

T - Spicy flavor overall with pepper, clove and earthy bitter notes. There is also a touch of barnyard funk in the backend that suggests hay and earthy hops. Finishes with a slight herbal hop bite.

M - Light to medium bodied with a light syrupy texture that's a bit watery overall. Finishes with a touch of spice and bitterness on the palate.

D - Really nice saison that featured everything I enjoy about the style. I found this to be a very well-balanced brew with a bit of sweetness, subtle spices and a hint of funk, which resulted in a very flavorful, sessionable saison.

On tap at Green Flash.

A: Transparent yellow gold with a big white head.

S: Pronounced pepper blends with grainy malt and a light bitterness. Esters remind me of granny smith apple and pear. Orange peel is evident, as are grains of paradise.

T: Pepper-like phenols with apple and pear. Low bitterness accompanies grain, orange pith, and earth. No alcohol is evident.

M: Light by with high carbonation.

Overall: A pleasant low alcohol Saison.

On tap at Max's.

Light straw yellow, dense white head, this is a great looking saison. Nose is excellent. Dry, spicy with white pepper clove and a little floral character, there's a rustic, grainy character. Fantastic! The palate opens, dry, grainy and a touch watery, though that's only because the beer's served too cold. Moderately spicy, the balance on the palate is great. I also detect a mild hibiscus note. Dry, grainy finish, spicy and cripsly carbonated, this is an excellent saison. Highly recommended.

On tap at The Red in Santa Cruz. Opaque gold color with a billowing white head. Aroma is wheaty with some banana notes. Also some citrus, but a distinct lack of spiciness. Flavor is mainly banana pith and lemon meringue. Again, not really any spice. Comes off sweet and underattenuated. Good mouthfeel but this is really just a typically uninspired American attempt at a Belgian style.

On-tap at the Beachwood BBQ, in Seal Beach, CA, had 2 servings because it was so good,

A: Pours a bright golden colour, with a somewhat fizzy white head which has surprisingly good retention and leaves some nice Belgian lacing.

S: Great nose, one of the best smelling beers I have had in a long time, fruit, flowers, orange, smells a lot like a summer meadow.

T: Taste is fantastic, lemon zest, sweet orange, mixes with mild coriander spice and pepper, malty, dry, but has enough residual sugar to bring it to the forefront at times, yeast brings some Granny Smith apple character adding tart acidity to the already complex flavour, absolutely delicious, the best Saison I have ever had.

M: Mouthfeel is superb for this style of beer, dry, smooth, very easy to drink.

D: This beer is real good, could have drunk this all day if it weren't $5.50 a pop, would drink this wherever it's on-tap, haven't been this excited about a new brew since PtE and Firestone 11, how do they get that much flavour into a 4.5% beer? Great job Green Flash.

a surprising render of a unique note. did have a funk to it but somewhat of a french saison yeast note. golden cloudy with a retention. pour was a bit foamy. bubbles tight. grassy nose. palate is wheat and a mild pilsner hint of funk. finish is the most interesting of all. i got a distinct mustard seed. it seems to be spiced well. or the hopping has a unique twist... either way. creative. wonder if its hints of high AA bittering or secondary spicing though. either way... i'm trying it out on my next saison.

Consumed 11/01/08 at Blue Palms, Hollywood, CA.

Cloudy light yellow beer in a tulip glass. For a head, only a thin ring of foam clings to the sides of the glass.

Powdery, estery, yeasty aroma. Slightly sweet. Touch of ginger.

Flavor is light, almost thin. A suggestion of yeasty bread flirts briefly with the palate before a a faint bitterness finishes up. Not as complex or fruity as expected or desired.

Still and thin in the mouth. More carbonation would probably do wonders for this beer.

As served, not a beer I particularly enjoyed. I'd be willing to try it again, though, to see if this was just on off batch or something.

12 ounce goblet at Liar's Club in Mission Beach, San Diego

First taste was good, but then gets too sweet

Golden color with a 1/4 inch white head

Far too fruity with oranges taking over any other tastes

Tasted like Tropicana juice had been thrown into the mix with beer

People made a big deal out of this summer seasonal at the bar, but I could have done without it

On tap at Green Flash taproom 12/30/11.

Pours a golden hazy straw color with a thin head sitting on top. A punch of citrusy, musky yeast in the nose and not much else. Spice up front tickles the nose; lemon and orange zest flavors end in a funky spice and mild hop bitterness. Middling finish with a balanced feel makes this a very drinkable beer.

I love Saisons, but the thing I don't like is that there isn't much difference between them. Green Flash has actually succeeded in making a different tasting Saison. This is super light, despite being unfiltered. It's very light on everything in the beer, from the lemony zest to the barely there hop bitterness. Easily the most drinkable Saison. I just wish I had this during the 100 degree weather I experienced this summer. It's made for hot weather, but good any time.

Picked up a 22 at South Bay pharmacy (which is no longer a pharmacy).

A- pours a hazy, yet bright straw yellow with a huge meringue like head that measures in at 3". Multiple tiny streamers. Looks great.

S- Dusty, grassy, light citrus, light biscuit, little iron/ferrous note.

T- light floral, herbal notes that become second fiddle to the citrus Belgian sweetness, with a little clove and white pepper. The Ginger notes are nice but not overwhelming.

M- light, crisp, refreshing. Finishes dry and crisp.

D- This is a delicious beer, and so easy to enjoy. Great summer refresher.

Poured from a 22 oz. bomber into a New Belgium globe glass. Pours a golden hazed yellow with a thick and rather resilient cap of white foam. Looks good, and offers solid lacing throughout the glass.

Nose of light lemon and a bit of spice, yet pretty solid through the foam. Touch of Belgian-esque yeast is everpresent in a good way.

Flavor is bit muted however and offers a short finish. Decent but short and in fact a bit of a letdown given the pour. Pleasant nonetheless though lacking a bit in body for the style.

Overall a solid offering that might benefit from a bit more residual malt..

Reviewed on 9/3/08. On tap at the Ginger Man. Pours a cloudy gold and wmall white head. Aroma of wheat, lots of spices. Flavor is wheaty with a spicy finish (pepper, clove). Somehow I had a feeling that this would taste a lot like the Southern Tier Cherry Saison and I was right. More wheat beer/hefe like than a saison, but it was tasty.

22oz bottle into my Sierra Nevada glass. Golden yellow in color with a thin and bubbly white head to. Pretty nice lacing on the glass as I drank it.

The aroma has some crisp, pilsner like malts to it mixing with some Belgian yeast spice. I get a little clove to it out of the yeast. Some brighter, refreshing lemony citrus is present as well.

The taste shows a lot of the Belgian yeast spice throughout the flavor. Midway some of the sweeter grainy malts come through, while in the finish I get more of a bitter citrus rind presence.

The mouthfeel is light with carbonation being above average. Overall it was a pretty good beer, but not outstanding in the style. It was flavorful and pretty easy drinking but the spice and bitter citrus rind felt a little harsh at times. Overall an enjoyable beer though.

Pours a hazy straw color with a tight, fizzy white head that leaves little bits of lacing.

Smells of a bit of citrus and spiciness.

Tastes of some pretty mild fruit notes with a spiciness on the back end. Citrus and a bit of sour apple make up the fruits. A touch of grainy sweetness adds in the middle. On the end notes of coriander, white pepper, and some earthy notes.

Mouthfeel is medium with a crisp amount of carbonation.

Overall, I find it to be quite a good saison, but I wish the price was a little less.
