Style: American Double / Imperial Stout

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.80%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
We explored 19th Century British Stout recipes, then charted a fresh course to land on a modern American version of the old-world classic. Our Double Stout encompasses the very best of both worlds. Golden naked oats, dark crystal and roasted malt offer a luscious balance of bittersweet chocolate and hints of coffee. Fair winds and following seas. Smooth sailing, all the way home.

Poured from the bottle into a tulip.
Pours a deep, dark brown that lets virtually zero light through with a dark tan, creamy head.
The aroma is big chcoloate and roast coffee notes, a bit of dark fruit and a hint of burnt toast.
The taste is big and very bold. Big, dark chcololate, roast coffee, wood char, and a lingering and dry bitter bite at the finish. there is also an acidic and harsh note in that finish that is not pleasant on my palate. A little booozy as well.
Mouthfeel is medium.
Overall, some nice things going on but doesn't seem a coherent whole and there is a bit of a burnt taste that I'm not fond of. There are much better Imperial Stouts in the same price range.

This is a very well made stout. Very smooth a full bodied, with a good coffee bitterness that lingers in your mouth well after the sip. Close overall to FBS.

Bottle.
Appearance: black. Medium foamy head. Nice, persistent lacing.
Smell: light roasted barley.
Taste: chocolate. Coffee. Roasted barley. Smooth.
Mouthfeel: medium-low carbonation. Big body. Sweet.
Overall. Tasty double stout. Balanced well. Can not taste the booze of a 9% beer. Well done. Will buy again.
