Style: American Double / Imperial Stout

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.80%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
We explored 19th Century British Stout recipes, then charted a fresh course to land on a modern American version of the old-world classic. Our Double Stout encompasses the very best of both worlds. Golden naked oats, dark crystal and roasted malt offer a luscious balance of bittersweet chocolate and hints of coffee. Fair winds and following seas. Smooth sailing, all the way home.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass.
Appearance - black, but with the slightest bit of light coming. Mountainous, mocha head. Good amount of lacing.
Smell - espresso, dark chocolates, brownie mix.
Taste - follows the nose with the presence of espresso and chocolate. This is a smooth and complex, flavorful IS; tremendously balanced hops, malts and barley!
Feel - hop, coffee and dark chocolate bitterness, medium body. Smooth and easy to drink at nearly 9% ABV!
Overall - tremendous Imperial Stout and at a pretty good value!

One of the best double stouts Ive tasted. Not quite a Bourbon County but fairly close. Similar to Bells Expedition Stout.

Hearty beer. Pours thick with thick head. Classic flavors, slightly bitter, slightly sweet but it's very subtle. And a coffee like background.

A- nice moderate foamy mocha latte head that lasted a good bit, but left very little lacing. Very, very dark/opaque (zero light getting through) black/brown. Outstanding.

S- coffee, toasted malt, caramel. A little cocoa.

T- coffee, dark chocolate. Starts off bitter, gets a little sweet in the middle, then the bitterness kicks in (again) on the finish. Very good.

M- big, full body. Smooth and creamy.

O- excellent!!! A super stout. Another great beer from Green Flash. Will be having again and would highly recommend.

Cheers!

Saw this at the local liquor store and have been on a stout kick.

A - Jet black color. Mostly clear but difficult to see from the dark color. Khaki colored head with light lacing.

S - Strong roasty aroma with some toffee, chocolate, and malty tones. The chocolate and roasted smells seem to stick out above the rest and swirl together to and mix well. There may seem to be some coffee tones.

T - Very similar to the smell this beer and has complexity but is coasting on the chocolate/roasted notes that are very characteristic of a delicious stout. There is a sweet roasty character that is predominant and has some coffee tones that compliment. It is a powerful flavor that is very delicious.
.
M - Moderate to high mouth-feel. Light carbonation perfect for the style. Not as heavy as other imperial stouts but isn't as cloying as others too.

Overall, this is a delicious imperial stout. Not the best imperial stout I've ever had but is still very good with a tilt toward the roastier side. I prefer the little thicker and boozier but this is a way to double up a dry stout and keep drinking. This beer would make a great dark beer to be drunk several at a time due to it's full flavor and richness that is outstanding. I would definitely get this again and would recommend it to any dark beer fan.

Green Flash Double Stout
Poured into a Stone stout glass:
Black pour, luscious body, fat finger of cappuccino-colored head that fades to reveal nice lacing.
Smells of chocolate, raisin, fig, plum. A dark fruit bouquet soaking a chocolate twizzler.
Taste has roast that enters upfront, char, then the chocolate dark fruit comes forth, nice bitterness from some hops. Very nice.
Mouthfeel is slick and smooth, thickly satisfying. Sticky. Carbonation is medium.
This is a big winner. A great example of the style, and as far as RIS's/ imperial stouts go, the best bang for your buck out there right now.

From a 12oz bottle into a standard pint glass. Best by 02/05/ year smeared, but guessing 2015.

Black pour with a good size oatmeal colored head which dissipated leaving decent lacing initially. Nose was of roasted malt with a dash of brandy thorn in. Would this be harsh??

No it would not. Sweet, not boozy, lightly toasted on the malts side. The kind of stout you just love to roll around in your mouth. Thee is a slight burn in the back of the mouth from the 8.8abv, which is not that high for an imperial stout.

A very good stout, will be looking out for it again.

Really good double stout. Nice toasted burnt malt character and hops at the end. Standard black coffee in the nose but not as much as expected in the taste. Alcohol only slightly noticeable, big carbonation, medium mouthfeel.
