Style: American Double / Imperial Stout

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.80%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
We explored 19th Century British Stout recipes, then charted a fresh course to land on a modern American version of the old-world classic. Our Double Stout encompasses the very best of both worlds. Golden naked oats, dark crystal and roasted malt offer a luscious balance of bittersweet chocolate and hints of coffee. Fair winds and following seas. Smooth sailing, all the way home.

Pours a dark mocha colored creamy thick frothy creamy 1 finger head fades semi slowly with nice lacing, pitch black beer that's pretty thick with nice legs.

Nose brings lots of dark malts and earthy spicy hops, dark malts with cocoa, creamy chocolate, oats, fluffy nougat and caramel, some dark malts with a hint of roast and fresh coffee. Hops are fairly spicy but mild, little earthy too.

Taste starts creamy again, little powdered cocoa like, creamy oats with a dry powdered character. Super dry with sweet tendencies as there are lots of malt characters, black malts, little roast like with hints of coffee, then some caramel and fluffy nougat, into the cocoa, powdered cocoa and chocolate, even the dark malts bring a little bitterness. Some slight spicy hops, little chewy and fair overall bitterness, but not too hoppy. There is a hint of booze warmth, mostly hidden behind the big dark malts and spicy hops. Finish is dry and fairly bitter, long lingering bitter spicy hops and dark roasty black malts, little more powdered cocoa, and the weight of the beer still seems to sit on the tongue long after it's gone.

Mouth is big bodied, full rich and fairly thick, little creamy, with good carbonation, and just a hint of well hidden booze warmth.

Overall pretty nice, the dark malts are very nice, fluffy, creamy, but dry and tasty, decent hop profile that doesn't get too crazy bitter or spicy that I expected for a Green Flash beer called "black ale". So pretty nice.

Produced a 2.5 finger beige head. Beer color is an ultra dark brown.
The aroma is of roasted malts, dark chocolate, and caramel.
The taste is similar, but with a light pine hop bitterness. Heavy mouth-feel, and low carbonation.
Delicious! Smooth, and the high abv isn't noticable in the taste.
