Style: American Double / Imperial Stout

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.80%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
We explored 19th Century British Stout recipes, then charted a fresh course to land on a modern American version of the old-world classic. Our Double Stout encompasses the very best of both worlds. Golden naked oats, dark crystal and roasted malt offer a luscious balance of bittersweet chocolate and hints of coffee. Fair winds and following seas. Smooth sailing, all the way home.

A: very dark. Tan head about 3 fingers tall. The head stuck to the sides all the way down. Very good looking.

S: Nutty and coffee aromas. Not very strong in the smell arena, could have been due to the huge head.

T: Taste was great. Coffee, roasted nut, smokey flavor. Really enjoyed it, but I expected a little more weight to this one being an american double

M: Mouthfeel was actually quite smooth. Very easy to drink. I expected a little more viscosity when it was poured but I still really enjoyed it.

O: I really enjoyed this. Will definitely have it again. Maybe not the most robust Double I've had but it was really enjoyable.

Bottled on 12/18/12. Poured into a DFH Chalice.

A - Pours black and opaque, but thin (not the higher viscosity one might expect). 3-finger, thick tan head. Excellent lacing. Well carbonated.

S - Predominantly roasted malts, but some coffee and hints of dark chocolate and sweetness.

T - Roasted malt, dry bitterness, hints of dark chocolate in the finish (in the back of the throat).

MF - Smooth, start to finish, but disappointingly thin.

O - Well balanced, but could use a fatter chewier feel. A quafible stout that I highly recommend.

Pours black with a crisp tan head
Nose- coffee and roasted/burnt barley, wood, some dark cherry
Taste- starts with some vanilla and flaky, woody dark malt, bitter roasted/charred barley, subtle coffee, some dark chocolate, finishes with some booze and bitter roasted barley and earthy hops
Feel- kind of flaky texture, fairly high carbonation for a double stout, some booze in there.
This is a burly beer, a solid stout, not at all your overly sweet "decadent" imperial stout. Not the smoothest thing to take down, but has great natural roasty flavors with nice hopiness as well

Pours a beautiful jet black body with a finger thick light brown head. Great, consistent retention from the head. Smell is roasted malt dominated and a lot of booze with a hint of coffee . Taste is of roasted malt, coffee, and a hint of cocoa with a surprising hoppy kick. Alcohol is noticeable but is well hidden by the rich flavors. Mouth feel is quite smooth with good carbonation, maybe a bit too much. Overall this is another great brew from Green Flash. I love how drinkable, yet boozy it is. I just wish it had more of a noticeable coffee taste to it. On par with, or maybe even better than Stone Smoked Porter.
