Style: American Double / Imperial Stout

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.80%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
We explored 19th Century British Stout recipes, then charted a fresh course to land on a modern American version of the old-world classic. Our Double Stout encompasses the very best of both worlds. Golden naked oats, dark crystal and roasted malt offer a luscious balance of bittersweet chocolate and hints of coffee. Fair winds and following seas. Smooth sailing, all the way home.

L) Pours an oily black with a lovely tan head. Some lacing and acceptable head retention.

S) Strong notes of rich chocolate, roasted coffee, and dark toffee. There is a lovely candied dark fruit note that balances out with the more "savory" flavors as well.

T) Everything in the nose makes an appearance in the flavor profile. The coffee is especially strong on the finish, there is an incredibly bitter espresso aftertaste that dangerously treads the line between pleasant and unpleasant.

F) Very silk with medium-low carbonation. A pleasure to sip on.

O) I would recommend this to someone who hasn't had it, a great and unique representation of the style.

It has a pitch black colored body that leaves a large foamy dark tan colored head leaving some nice lumpy valleys inside the head. Thick beautiful ringy lacing graces the sides of the chalice. The aroma has a smoky coffee and dark chocolate and the taste takes those smells and adds a nice flavorful charcoal. On the palate, hmmm.... kinda at a medium sort of body - with a thick creamy coating around the tongue. Though a fairly high ABV, the alcohol is well hidden. Overall, this is good for its style and its spectacular for me. I would definitely come back to this.

Thick black body that produces a rich brown head upon the pour, fades to a thick ring and thin covering. Nose offers coffee and dark chocolate, a bit of sweet caramel malts, vanilla, smoke and barbeque. The flavor is noticeably sweeter, adding strawberry and creamy lactose to all the chocolate, roastiness, and coffee going on. It verges on Neapolitan flavors. Body is thick, rich, creamy, and overall indulgent. Fine prickles of carbonation hit the tongue through the sticky body.
This was a great stout, made all the more impressive by its availability. Rich flavors of chocolate and coffee were tempered by the sweetness, and the mysterious addition of strawberry only helped. Body was incredible. This will be revisited.

Dark, hoppy, roasty, and malty but tastes more like a porter than a stout, nonetheless very tastey.

ABV hides very well on this brew, most noticeable at the tail end with a little burn on the tongue. Inky black body, small creamy beige head. Medium weight body, very slippery. Not as toasty as some, but still very dark tasting (?). Very smooth and drinkable

A: Poured into a snifter to a black beer topped by a finger and a half of dense tan head that retains well and leaves some lacing.
S: Smells of roasted malts and chocolate. Fairly light on the nose but I've had this one aging for a couple years
T: Taste is chocolate and roasted malts with some old hop bitterness. Swallow is coffee and roasted malts with a little more chocolate.
M: This beer is full in body with ever so slightly prickly carbonation and a drying finish
O: Overall this one isn't bad. It has nice flavors and some decent complexity. Definitely one to try if you like bigger beers and it ages pretty well too.

Solid appearance, jet black, thick, tan head 1". Aroma was both hoppy and roasty. West coast stout up in here. A little bit of alcohol in the nose, but nothing oppressive.

Taste is a good chewy unpretentious stout. Zero adjuncts. Tons of roasted chocolate malt, yet the oat usage keeps it plenty smooth. Good price, good format, straightforward.

Green Flash Brewing Company is extremely close to my house. I can literally ride a bike there in 5 minutes or so. When it comes to Green Flash beer you can buy in stores they mainly focus on their IPAs, but thankfully their tasting room in Mira Mesa offers 3 stouts on tap, including Cosmic Ristretto (an espresso beer) and this one. This is everything I love about stout beers. Black color and a very dark flavor with hints of coffee and chocolate. This one had a slight sweetness to it that I appreciate as well. Overall some complex flavor can be found here, just like in a good coffee. I can't wait to try their Ristretto beer next.

Bought a 4 pack that went down way to quick! Great dark chocolate and cacoa, big roastiness, some earthy hops and a nice fudgy sweet flavour. Super tankable for 8.8%

4th of july 2016 beer of choice. four pack of 12 oz bottles with a best by July 6th 2016 stamped on bottles.

Appearance- from a hardy pour it's the typical stout darkness. black with a frothy tan head. leaves alil lacing.

Aroma- heavy caramel burnty smell. I know burnty isn't a word but i'm using it here. smells like a solid stout. roasted malt and a heavy caramel scent dominate this brew. for the style this is spot on.

Taste- the taste is that of the aroma but muted just a tad. alil slick which I dig prolly from the oats. mild bitterness that balances out the malt sweetness perfectly.

Mouthfeel- medium/ heavy bodied. good carbonation.

Drinkability- on beer #three right now and easily going to kill the four pack.

Overall- green flash is completely stupid for stopping production on this brew. If anything they should make this a winter seasonal. a solid imperial stout and that's coming from a complete hophead. what the h!ll is up with breweries stopping classics? like green flash and their classic west coast ipa recipe then palate wrecker and now this?... oh but we can add a ton of hoppy foo foo ales... hipster brewery that went south imo.
