Served in 10oz tulip. Poured a semi-hazy pale yellow color with an inch (and it took the bartender about 5 minutes to get only an inch, it was an overly happy beer) of white head that had moderate retention and very light lacing.

The aroma was very benign, just a hint of grain, and a very light whiff of yeast. On the tongue, there was quick, very quick, hit of tartness that immediately gave way to a very light grain taste. After a very brief moment the flavors were gone completely.

The body was very thin, watery even, and had a nicely dry finish that did leave a hint of gentle tartness at the back of the the palate. Drinkability was good, but absent the expected flavor and personality, why bother? Overall, a well-made, but ultimately featureless beer. Your cash and calories can be better spent elsewhere.

Reviewed from notes taken at Green Flash last week in SD.

A- Uber pale straw-golden body with a small foamy white head with decent retention. Falls to thin ring after some time and leaves some patches of lace on the top of the glass. Lace is very spotty further on down.

S- Very faint as the lower ABV may suggest. Light cracked grains and a hint of lactic acid comes in the forefront. Small sugary sweets, tiny yeast spice, herbal feel.

T- Very faint and light but still some nice flavors happening here. Hints of lemons and lactic sours are up front. Light straw and caramel as well as some herbal spicy yeast but not very pronounced.

MF- Super light bodied with a nice creamy texture. Carbonation is moderately high and foams up nicely to add some feel to it all, finishes semi tart.

Insanely light overall feel with nice hints of saison and lactic acid. This is a nice idea for a sessionable lighter brew.

Had this on draft at the new Stone Brewing World Bistro and Gardens - Liberty Station. 8oz pour into a tulip.

Pours a hazed white straw-like hue with a thin white head that dissipates almost instantly, small amounts of lacing. The smell is a bit odd - like a horse stable and dirt, light lemon zest and bready malt. Taste is more like a Berliner Weisse - sourdough crust lingers forever which is very pleasant, lemon zest, black peppercorn. Mouthfeel is light and effervescent, extremely refreshing, finishes bone dry.

Tasty brew, especially for the warm summer months. I don't get the Saison aspect of this one though...other than the time of year it was released. The nose is a bit weird as stated above, hopefully they'll clean it up a bit and make this a world class brew...it's definitely well on its way to being one.

Both 1 oz. taster and 13 oz. pour in the brewery tasting room as part of their "Genius Lab" small batch experimental series, unknown dating vintage, poured into tulip g;ass, drank 6/18/13 over one hour.

A: 4.50 - very unique coloration - white wine straw with gray hues, minimal clarity (can't see or read through), eggshell white one finger head quickly dissipating into subtle glass lacing, little alcohol legs

S: 4.25 - an interesting admixture of saison and sour characteristics - lemon meets funk

T: 4.50 - not overwhelming tart on the front end that accentuates as the taste reaches further back into the mouth; lots of Brettanomyces characteristics here with a saison refreshing zest

M: 4.50 - light bodied, fair carbonation, lingering flavors/aromas

O: 4.50 - an interesting take on a joint style of saison meets sour; not too tart or puckering and remains refreshing; this is an outstanding beer for the warm Summer months (or year round in San Diego) and was the best beer that I had among a huge list at the brewery yesterday; I hope that it makes it out of the Genius Lab batch into the shelves of the East Coast!
