Love that there are board games and usually always places to sit. The bar tends to have a long line with only one bartender, so opening up a tab and ordering can take a bit of time. That's the only downfall. The huge beer selection makes up for it though.

This is one of those places that I enjoy well enough when I'm there--quite a lot, actually--but I hardly ever make a point of going. Probably the best thing going for it is the on-premise bar, with ten or so very solid taps running at a time, sometimes quite excellent ones (Cantillon, BCBS, etc.). The "lounge" area of the bar is funky/hipsterish, with big couches, armchairs, and all kinds of quiet nooks that would be great for a date. The selection of beer in the store proper is overall great, although I've never seen a more badly organized floor. A good many of the hoppy beers are both refrigerated *and* unrefrigerated; i.e., six bottles of a particular beer might be in the cooler, with others of the same beer shoved willy nilly into various bookcase-like shelves. I suppose this is a conscious choice, sort of a "choose your own adventure" vibe, but it comes off as a little sloppy and lazy.
The service is always super friendly, especially from the bar staff, and they occasionally get things that no other shop in L.A. does, I suppose because of personal relationships with brewers/breweries. The main reason I don't go more often is the atrocious parking, some of the worst in L.A., and that's saying a lot. I've had to walk several blocks many times, and it's a drag to walk those blocks back with a bag (or belly!) full of beer. If they could find it in themselves to put a little effort into organization/refrigeration, as well as find a better location, they'd probably find even more happy customers. Still number two (or three) to me behind Bill's in Atwater Village.

An awesome setup: they usually have about a half-a-dozen beers on tap, but what really makes this place special is that you can choose any beer or wine from their adjoining beer and wine store (with an extensive selection) and pay two dollars for an uncorking fee and enjoy that spirit in the bar. The only downside is that you can't pour the beer yourself, and my experience with LA bartenders is that they are so in name only.

Can't think of a better bottleshop anywhere. Lots of rare and hard to find bottles and cans in the coolers. Great stuff on tap too...had Prairie Bomb! here for the first time. Definitely get here when I can...highly recommended.
