Leeds Brewery "Gathering Storm"
cask @ The Crown Hotel, Liverpool, UK on 31 March 2015

Notes: Clear black-brown body with a short but dense head of khaki. Better than average retention and lacing. Buttery and nutty aroma with soft roast and cocoa powder. Roasty, nutty, and buttery in the flavor as well with a touch of molasses and some mild grassy components from the hops. Smooth across the palate, and somewhere between light-medium and medium in body. Balanced by a median bitterness. Average dry, mildly roasty accented finish. Very mild and easy to drink.

Cask dispense into a UK pint pot at the Sussex Arms, Twickenham Green, Feb '12.

Pours to a rich mid black colour with a small off-white/beige head. (Head lasted fairly well throughout drinking!)

Dry roasted malt aroma with background smell of bitter chocolate and a tiny whiff of coffee, but definately more cocoa heavy than coffee!

Tastes pretty much mirrored the above stated flavours, though I would add a little hint of dried berry fruit in the taste and also quite a sweet flavour (malt bases) that the bitter chocolate smell didn't indicate!

Mouthfeel was a little watery for my liking and not robust enough! Dryish aftertaste.

Overall - an OK stout but no world beater - will search elsewhere for 'stouty' excellence, but would have this again if faced with it over a bar!

Appearance... black beer with head colour beige of 1 finger aprox

Aroma... roasted malt, little touch of caramel. malty aroma but very light

Taste... Sugar cane flavour notes and smoked malt , but not too much sweetness

Mouthfeel... medium body and soft carbonation
Overall... a decent ale, hops are present in a light style. Nothing to remember
