On tap at Field Of Drafts held at The Hanger in Lancaster, CA.
Pours a hazy brown with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa, and slight char aromas. Taste is much the same with cocoa and char flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of roasty bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with a solid cocoa quality in the aroma and flavor.

Pours the usual near-black in the big chalice. A big head with an nice creamy carbonation in the mouth with every new pour. Quite flavorful but less heavy and alcoholic than so many of these big stouts and porters. Some coffee flavor, seemingly, with a modest bitterness. This strikes a nice balance between the bitter chocolate and the sweet cocoa flavors. A touch of caramel and loads of warm roasted malt tips the balance toward the malty sweetness.
One of the more restrained and drinkable chocolate dark brews I've had. Certainly the best beer from this newer brewery. From the 22 oz bottle bought at Barons Marketplace on Point Loma Blvd.
