12 oz. Can

Pours a nice yellow color, nice carbonation, with a pretty nice small off-white head, which leaves some sticky lacing behind. The nose is hoppy, malty, with some citrus. The taste is hoppy, malty, citrusy. Medium body, with a nice dry/bitter finish. Overall, a pretty tasty brew.

From the can, poured into a tulip

Appearance: amber-copper colored and wonderfully bright. Without a doubt, this is one of the brightest beers I’ve seen in a long while. The head is a light tan that fades quickly. The short lifespan of the head prevents this beer’s appearance from what would likely otherwise be a 5.

Aroma: some hop aroma, but far from 2X IPA standards. The malt aroma is more akin to cardboard, and maybe old bread. The aroma isn’t off-putting, it just isn’t super inviting.

Flavor: quite enjoyable. The malt flavor is restrained, allowing the hops to be the showcase. The malt comes through with a mild cardboard flavor as in the nose, not oxidized per se, but like a lick-the-envelope flavor. The alcohol is detectable, but more as a background contributor.

Mouthfeel: spot on for what a 2X IPA should be – light-medium. There is some weight here, but you could easily drink several of these beers.

Overall: enjoyable, but more hops are needed to really make this beer stand out. The hop flavors are good, but a bit light for a 2X IPA. A 6-pk runs $14, which is a bit pricey for this beer, but I’d readily buy this beer if offered as a single.

Poured from the 12 oz can into a pint glass, carefully. A thin head that dissipates very quickly, with typical lacing. Caramel gold in color, almost amber, and it's cloudy. The nose is very fruity, citrus sweet and hoppy, with the pine smell very present.

Taste is immediately hoppy and sticky, with bitterness coming in but balanced. The malt is subtle, I get a taste of toffee. The strong citrus in the nose is not really present in the taste, instead bringing in a nice bitter edge that has a certain minerally tinge that's probably intentional. It's not a deal-breaker. They say they use "snowpack" for the water and I'm reminded of how snow tastes, very cold and like it came off a tin roof. This is better than it probably sounds.

Taste develops into a biscuit finish, and that's where the citrus comes in, slight grapefruit, some melon, and pine resin which resolves with a sticky tart aftertaste.

The carb seems heavy, and while the the booze (8.5%) is well hidden for this DIPA, it is definitely warming. I imagine 2 of these might go to your head if you're not careful. Very drinkable and subtle things are going on. While the mineral character is a bit of a "huh?" this is solid DIPA that proves they don't have to be astringent or hard to take.

12 oz can. Pours glowing hazy golden amber with a small creamy off white head that goes to a thin fil and laces the glass.

The aroma is a bit subdued - sweet caramel malt and piney, resiny hops.

The flavor is sweet nutty caramel malts and fruit with a big piney resiny bitter hop finish. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, more like an imperial red with to nutty caramel malts and big piney resiny hops.
