Beer poured from the can. Dark black appearance with no head. Little roasty with some chocolate and slight amounts of coffee. Bittersweet with some chocolate. Pretty creamy body. Overall, good mouthfeel.

12 oz. Can

Pours a pretty nice dark brown color, with some pretty nice carbonation, with a pretty nice thick/creamy two-finger light tan head, which leaves some pretty nice sticky lacing behind. The nose is malty, with some nice chocolate/toffee, vanilla, kinda roasty. The taste is pretty nice, malty, with some nice chocolate/toffee notes, vanilla, roasty. Medium body, ABV is hidden nicely, with a nice little dry/bitter finish. Overall, a tasty brew.

This was a very solid porter, a bit of a surprise considering its origin (or maybe I just don't know much about the Texas beer scene), but quite well made. Porters are one of my favorite styles, and this one fit in very well with what I like. Not too heavy, but plenty of caramel and chocolate hints with just a bit of hops and a faint roasty bitterness for balance. I'd definitely buy this again, and I'll look for other beers from this brewery if I find them in my part of the country.

Drank straight from the can after a bike ride, so consider this review practical more than perfect. The beer quenched my thirst. The mouthfeel was less velvety than typical porters - course carbonation and green-hop bitterness lightened and sharpened the experience. The aftertaste was malty, smoky/ashy and pleasantly bitter. The nose was somewhat dank. Overall its an okay beer. I'll certainly enjoy the next 5 cans, but it's not what I'm looking for in a porter.

look: 3.75 | smell: 4 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 3.75

Appearance: Pours with a modest bubble show that fails to create much of a head; translucent fudge for the liquid color and a firecracker display of lacing

Smell: Dark fruit and chocolate, with a hint of roast

Taste: Plum pudding and chocolate forward; sweetness builds, through the middle with a bit of an ashy character, in the finish

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: It is a stab in the right direction for a Baltic Porter but falls short on several fronts

Thanks, CheChe, for the opportunity
