Can to becher pint glass.
The appearance was a semi-hazy burnt orange color with a finger's worth of white foamy head that tipped off at a clean subtle pace. Mild lace slid into the beer.
The aroma had some sweet to bitter citrusy and floral hops up front over top of a clean biscuit/white bready malt bill.
The flavor was sweet and bitter at different times, not fully blended and bringing the malt bill in the same way. Aftertaste was faint and somewhat malty with a touch of the citrusy hops.
The mouthfeel was between light and medium bodied with a good sessionability about it. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt pretty spot on.
Overall, pretty nice APA. Expectations were achieved.

12 oz can poured into a shaker pint glass. Hazy orange gold with bubbly, frothy head of off white foam and some lacing. Mild nose of floral hops, citrus, yeast and lightly sweet grains and caramel. Balanced malt, crisp but light citrus, and good bitterness. Medium body and carbonation. Overall easy drinking pale ale.

From BeerAdvocate Magazine #80 (Sep 2013):

For all of the Pale Ales out there, this one is about a half-stride in front of the middle of the pack; it’s a tough act to put out there. If not for the choice of hops and the balance put forth, we’d be singing a different tune. Worth a try, and it being a canned option helps.

STYLE: American Pale Ale
ABV: 6.0%

LOOK: Hazed nectarine color, impressive head

SMELL: Citrus zest, soft pine, pipe tobacco, ripe pears, bread crust, yeast, faint caramel

TASTE: Crisp pop, malty medium body, slightly hop forward, ample bitterness, orange hop resin, lemon pith, fresh-cut grass, nutty grain, apple skin, kiss of alcohol, dry finish

Excellent pale ale. Appropriate hoppiness and medium body when some many pale ales are watery.

Poured from the can into a nonic pint glass. No can dates from what I can see.

Deep blonde amber, slightly hazy with a real bright white fluffy three finger head. Lots of super fine micro carbonation and pill like soapy lacing.

Slight amounts of cookie malt like character, mild sweetness and a sense of lemon lime hop action but quiet on the nose Chewy sensing and inviting, as some hop exploration not being expected obvious provides some good citrus aromas.

Palate comes with a bit of unexpected watery quality even for a pale ale, but not too bad. Hop forward flavors of grapefruit and lime zest a bit, almost oily consistency feeling and a good aftertaste. Malt sweetness is taking a back seat but manage just enough body and control to bring some chewy character. Moderately but nicely carbonated, with a somewhat loose feel though.

Overall just needs to get into the real solid range with a bit more malt depth and body.

The beer poured a golden amber with a very large fluffy white head. This is a dry hopped pale ale and had a huge fresh hop aroma with lots of citrus and grapefruit rind. The taste started with a sweet malt body that quickly transitioned into a grapefruit and citrus hop bitterness that is dangerously close to many IPA’s. The dry finish left a lingering bitter coating on my palate that was a perfect ending to each sip. The Pale Dog was a well crafted Pale Ale that kept the hop level high as well as the drinkability. This big flavorful beer is one I will highly recommend for a local pale ale option.
