Great atmosphere here with a good selection of beer with workers that are more than happy to help you find something you like. 16 drafts and a cooler full of craft beer cans from local breweries and around the US. The food menu consists of well thought out sandwiches that rotate frequently.

This is smack in a pretty crummy neighborhood, but that said, the bar itself is pretty cool. Classic corner bar with a basic lay-out, long bar, and some standing room, as well as a beer garden style outdoor seating area, which you may not expect for a bar in this neighborhood.

Service is sketchy. Bartenders I've gotten have ranged from surly to indifferent. But on the plus side, they're usually prompt. The taplist is typically solid, with a generally good selection of craft beer, ranging from Founders, to Bells (think Hopslam), to Carton, to Tired Hands, and beyond, with a nice rarity popping up every once in a while. I never sampled the food.

This is a really cool spot, and while it's a bit off the beaten trail, it's really not that hard to get to, and basically within walking distance of some of the more high profile Center City bars. Worth checking out.

This bar is owned by the same guy who owns my local bar, the South Philadelphia Tap Room, and they are not too far from each other- less than a ten-minute bike ride. However, Newbold (where SPTR is) and Point Breeze (where ASB is) are not quite the same… it was quite startling to walk between the two the first time. There is some serious Detroit-style ghetto near the Sardine!

The place is one of those old-world corner bars, and nothing much has been refashioned here. It can get tight inside, but check out the cool backyard/patio, it is lovely.

Some cool beers on tap: Founders Devil Dancer, Weyerbacher Double Simcoe, Goose Island Ogden, Stone Collective Distortion, Bell’s, Cisco Baggywrinkle, Port Brewing, Dogfish Festina Peche…

The food is the star here, starting with the sardines (fried, sautéed, a la plancha). The vegan cheesesteak is super delicious too, as is the sweet-bologna slider. I haven’t had anything here that I didn’t like.

Service is so-so. Sometimes it is nice, some other times it is not so nice. There is a bit of that hipster holier-than-thou attitude at the Sardine, but nothing terrible. Just a little patience needed at times.

Prices are alright but not terribly low, and they could use a good happy hour like other bars in Philadelphia. But these are minor quibbles. I love the Sardine, and I always go back!
