Thanks to moose3285 for my first taste of 7venth Sun, a one quart growler, hand labelled with the name of the beer & the 6/11/13 fill date. Fresh IIPA. Jazzed. Popped open with my wife after a long day of work & listening to moronic softball parents yell moronic things at their kids. Inver Grove Heights sucks.

Pour comes out clear, filtered orange with a nice head...normally don't care, but in a long-distance growler? It proves it's alive. Yippee! Hits the nose g-spot: citrus, mango, light grains, bare sweetness. No pussy-footing around, this smells like a fine IIPA.

Mangrove IIPA comes so close to the bullseye I weep a little bit. Lovely, flesh-bruising bitterness whipsaws the top of my mouth. Citrus, mango, orange, & bitterness rake through the palate with sharp tines & makes my teeth smile. Underlying malts sweetness supports, but doesn't detract, from the hops. Odd graininess adds some texture I like, adding to a mouthfeel that's rough, abrasive, & fitting. Drinking. Quickly.

Why is it so hard to make a good IIPA? This kicks & bites like a mule in the prime of life. I'm going to have to try more from 7venth Sun. This is a marvelous beer that's close to the elite in its class, & I will be sad to see it go.

Arrives a slightly hazy orange color with a pure white head. Retention is decent and the scattered lace lasts forever.
Smell is citrus, hops and light malt. Balance is pretty good.
Taste is hoppier than the nose, leading the band of flavors. Malt plays second with citrus sitting quietly in the back waiting for a turn.
Warming and drying, fairly full bodied with a sharp, tingly effervescence that focuses on the tip of the tongue. At 95 IBUs it tastes hoppier than other double IPAs I've had but it's good.

Pours a hazy light golden color. smell has tropical hops with sweet malt. Taste was very good some pineapple mixed with grapefruit and tangerines a sweet malt finish. Moutfeel was tropical hoppy with a hint of booze that was rounded out with malts. Good 2IOA here.

Poured an orange body with minimal head and lace patches. Funky, not saison-way, but funky, spicy, dirty hop aroma. Fuller-bodied beer with some sticky, resin-like notes and some oiliness as well. Mild sweetness mixes with a powerful earthy, dirty hoppiness and dry, crisp finish.

12oz can served in a stemless wine glass. 01/17/19. Bought it at Captain's in Port Charlotte.

Pours a murky, hazy amber with very little head (also, it's colder than it should be). Smell is pine resin.

Taste is bitter, resinous, dank. Mouthfeel is thick. Overall, it's not bad.

On tap at Seventh Sun. Served in a chalice.

Appearance - Slightly hazy deep orange body. Huge fluffy white head. Consistent layer of surface foam. Great lacing.

Smell - Grapefruit and orange hops. Some doughy malt sweetness. Has a it upeeper malt character as well, though. Some caramel. A bit of booze.

Taste - Grapefruit more dominant than orange, but both are present. Orange accentuated by the sweetness behind it. A bit of mustiness too. Deep caramel sweetness. bitter and dry.

Mouthfeel - Medium heavy and sweet up front. Dries out quickly. A little boozy too.

Overall - I suspect an addition of some sugar that's drying it out. Honey, maybe, but I don't taste it. I thought it was superb at first, but it wore on me as I drank it.
