Kildare's Irish Pub, Manayunk, PA

The Kildare's of today has much more to offer than just Guinness, Bass and Harp. They've recognized the need to offer a greater selection of beers, and the need to include craft beers among them. Their draft selection could be better rounded perhaps, but it is extensive with 32 taps; and their overall selection is quite broad.

DRAFT LIST (some examples from fall '12)
Blue Moon
Smithwick's Irish Ale
Well's Bombardier
Young's Double Chocolate Stout
Yards Love Stout
Avery Maharaja IPA
Boulder Mojo IPA
Victory: Hopdevil IPA, Headwaters IPA, Festbier
River Horse Pumpkin
Bud Light
Coors Light
Yuengling Traditional
Sam Adams: Boston Lager, Seasonal
Stella Artois

Unibroue: Eau Benite, Maudite, La Fin Du Monde, Ephemere Apple
Stone: Cali-Belgique, IPA, Ruination IPA, Oaked Arrogant Bastard, Saison du Buff
Green Flash: IPA, Le Freak, Imperial IPA
Sierra Nevada: Pale, Tumbler
Great Divide: Titan IPA, Hercules Double IPA
Lagunitas: Hop Stoopid, Daytime IPA, Maximus IPA
Port Brewing Hot Rocks
Russian River Damnation
Firestone Walker Double Jack
Hitachino Nest Real Ginger Beer
Lindeman's: Framboise, Peche, Pomme
Ommegang: Abbey, Witte, Rare Vos, Three Philosophers, Biere D'Hougomont
Innis & Gunn Oak Aged Ale
Duchesse Du Bourgogne

The decor is, as you might expect, Irish pub-like. I won't even approach that subject, so lets just say it's a pleasant enough environment and a lot of care was taken in putting it together.

The service is, unfortunately, fairly standard. Sometimes you get a good server, but more often than not you'll find one who's just working their way through college.

The food is, again, as you might expect. Faux-Irish appetizers like "Chicken Boxty Quesadillas" and "Irish Craic Nachos" should warm you up for a Philly Cheesesteak "Pubwich" or "Irish Chicken Wrap", or even some "Guinness Stew". The prices are reasonable, and the food is well prepared. It's certainly not fancy, or even "gastro pub", but it's definitely better than Chili's.

This place was the #1 spot in Manayunk back in the day. Before Mad River opened in 2008 a typical Friday or Saturday nights the crowd would wrap around the block to get in and pay the $5 cover. It would be overly crowded, somewhat unfriendly bar tenders and drink price through the roof. The one good point is they'd have weekly specials and the food during the week wasn't that bad. Typical Pub draft selections like Guiness, Smithwicks etc. Several drafts on tap but nothing really stands out.

I'd venture to say it's less crowded these days because of most people heading to Mad River.
