it takes a lot to get me stoked on a basic american helles, but this one is pretty good, and certainly superior to new belgiums summer seasonal this year. this is a bright blonde beer, take its name quite literally, with robust carbonation and a lot of clarity. the nose is simple, just one or two malts in this beer, very very light, but fresh cereals and lager yeast are the predominant aromas. the flavor is the same, rather understated, simple beer. refreshing with all these bubbles, but not unique enough to really excite me. i think the fans of true german helles bock would appreciate this one, but find it lacking in depth and in body, just a little too dumbed down here, but tasty just the same. lone tree brewing has been totally hit or miss for me, more hits lately, but this helles is neither great success or terrible failure, rather a passable new beer that should have an audience when summer rolls around.

Pours a clear, gold color. 1/4 inch head of a white color. Slight retention and slight lacing. Smells of strong pale malt, slight sweet malt, slight hops, and a hint of yeast. Fits the style of a Munich Helles Lager. Mouth feel is sharp and clean, with an average carbonation level. There is also a slight dryness. Tastes of strong pale malt, slight sweet malt, slight hops, hint of citrus, and a hint of yeast. Overall, weak appearance, decent aroma, body, and blend.

12 oz. Can

Pours a pretty nice yellowish color, pretty nice carbonation, with a pretty nice thick/creamy/foamy white head, which leaves some sticky lacing behind. The nose is malty. The taste is malty, Medium body. Overall, a pretty tasty brew.

Found this at Lowry Beer Garden in Denver...or is it Aurora. Whatevers....

Looks like a helles. Bright golden, clean beer. Slight white head due to the pour.

Aroma is a bit more malt driven than hops, but is well balanced. Nothing over the top sweet or spicy. A hint of field corn, nothing major. I was outside, so it could have been anything

In tune with the more malty helles as opposed to a Czech pils, but the hops are still here. Perhaps not providing the zing, but they do tame the malt. Hint of floral and citrus. Clean finish, very easy dirnking

Nice pale gold colored body with a very thin, big bubble head (3.25). Hardly any aroma (2.75). Brittle, almost metallic grain and hop flavor (such as it is) (2.0). Light, leaning to medium body; watery (2.75).

A really weak, unbalanced beer. The high point for flavor is a long, lingering hop bitterness, but on the whole, with what flavor there is, it's harsh and the feel is watery and bland. Only for the curious.

Mountain Mama pours a delightful hazy pale blonde color, with a towering head of 3 fingers. It leaves toothpaste-like lace and has great retention.

Aromas of fresh baked bread for a moment, then the hay and straw come in as expected, with some grainy malts and a bit of corn as well.

Flavor is intense without being out of balance, striking it in fact with some great bready flavors and delicious Saaz influence. Light herbal qualities of lemongrass and rosemary. Cracker finishes the profile along with some nice pilsner-esque sharpness.

Feel is on point with taut carbonation and a nice, velvety creaminess. Crispy finish.

Another style nailed by Lone Tree. These guys really do not have a bad beer from what I can tell so far. Totally delicious, enjoyable, and assertive without overstepping any boundaries. A rare thing anymore, and these guys seem to have a knack for it. My favorite Munich Helles.

Poured into a dimpled mug.

Look: Opaque yellow straw color with a few rising bubbles -- A white head recedes to a collar and a light wisp. Very light spotty lacing.

Aroma: Malts and grains, some grassiness, followed by some light hops and subtle citrus.

Taste: A sweet malt bill to start, with an almost nutty character. Subtle hoppy bitterness and citrus in the finish.

Mouthfeel: Light, goes down easy.

Overall: Not a fan of the style, but this one goes down easy enough.

Had on Tap at Yard House in Denver in a short glass

Appearance:
Clear with small mildly excited carbonation and a white head

Smell:
Attenuated straightforward German hop profile

Taste:
Clean and crisp with Nobel hops or something similar and a malt aftertaste that didn't linger too long.

Mouthfeel:
Crisp and effervescent

Overall:
Nice Helles.
That restaurant could do a much better job of cleaning their glassware

Poured from 12 oz can into pint glass.
Appearance: pours a thin sudsy head, golden color and plenty of carbonation streaming.
Aroma: pleasant bready aroma and some grassy hops.
Mouthfeel: light and crisp with a pleasant dry finish.
Flavor: nice combination of bready malt, a bit of lemon, grassy and floral hops.
Overall: delicious lager. Would gladly have this one again.

Poured from a 12 ounce can into a Shaker pint glass, there is no "best by" date that I can find.

APPEARANCE: pours a clear light golden color with less than one-finger white head that quickly dissipated until a thin, broken layer of small bubbles remained, there is minimal lacing on the glass, medium carbonation.

SMELL: bread and lemon citrus.

TASTE: initially sweet then a lemon citrus note with a dry finish.

PALATE: light body and medium carbonation.

OVERALL: this is a nice summer beer but not a traditional Helles Lager because of the dry finish, I enjoyed it but, it's not the best I've had, there are better options so I would probably not seek this one out again.
