With the influx of hype driven beers being cranked out of Richmond, its nice to have this place to slide into. One half homebrew/winemaking store & one half brewery. Helpful, knowledgeable personnel can fill a recipe grain bill or pour a fantastic beer. The hoppy oferings have big flavor accompanied by mouthfeel. There is seating inside and out and a little something for everyone on the menu. Music is always on point. This is a really great local establishment producing some quality.

stopped by when driving through town to pick up some beer to go. the location is a storefront in a street front strip mall with a farmers market and some other shops in the same block. there are a few outdoor tables outside on the sidewalk. inside there is a bar, some tables, some arcade games, and a takout cooler. takeout beers are all in 32 oz crowlers, with packaging date. good variety of styles, I bought crowlers of Porter and Doppelbock that were solid

V: This is one of those places nestled in a small strip of stores (a coffee shop, an antique store, etc.). It's a deceptively big spot, with about 10 bar seats and a bunch of tables on the floor. There's some entertainment: video games, dart boards, etc., and an entrance to the homebrew store it shares space with. A decent space.

Q: A high level of quality - everything's made on premises - nothing stale here.

S: The service was friendly and prompt (it was dead when I was there), but I didn't ask any beer-related questions.

S: A pretty solid selection of beers - all Final Gravity. It's definitely heavy on IPAs, DIPAs, and NE IPAs, but there are some other styles, specifically a couple of stouts, a porter, and a red ale. A solid array.

Second day on the VA-DC runaround tour, (Evil) Davo leads the charge as he had curated a list of places we should go while down here. We took a car, as it’s a far ride, from the place we were at, you know, before, and goddamn, it’s hot outside. But really, it’s far. Could be a time crunch but, Wednesday in the afternoon, what have you got to lose? Just the rest of the day, I suppose...

In a strip mall, attached to a homebrew supply store called ‘original gravity’, that’s actually quite clever. Off to the right and back some, an ‘L’ shaped copper panel topped bar, dinged and stained as it should be, with a horizontal plank base and piping foot rail. Seating for a dozen on those squared metal stools. Another ‘L’ on the end, this one lower with a vertical plank base seemingly for ‘get your beer, then stand clear’ and to go service. The bar back is a set of rolling 3 door coolers with a 10 tap tower on one of them and 2 sets of 4 on the other, with a crowler crimper in between. Kegerator on the end with an upright 2 tap tower there, too. Horizontal boxings mounted above display growls glass & stainless, in all makes & sizes, plus shirts, hats, & glassware. Snifts, they dangle there from the underside. A pair of flatscreens atop. One lists beer, style, ABV, and pricing for ½ & full pour, 32oz & 64oz growl, and crowler fill proper (which I would think would be the same as a 32oz growler). The other flat above the bar showing the Atlanta-Boston game (8-7). Stand up cooler holds filled crowlers and salsa & chips atop.

15 taps (Stepping Stone, Blonde Ale, 5%; Rites of Spring, Ginger Honey Lager, 5.5%; Saison DeMeyer, Saison, 6.7%; Weizen Up, Hefe, 5%; Fire Station 5, Red Ale, 6%; Iced Coffee Brown, Brown Ale, 5%; Go with the Flo, Pale Ale, 5.5%; Retrograde, Session IPA, 4.5%; The Doppler Effect, IPA, 7%; Venus Rising, Imperial IPA, 8.1%; Space Invaders, Imperial IPA, 8%; Magnificent 7, Imperial IPA, 8%; Ain’t the Devil Happy, Belgian Strong Golden, 8.1%; Montpelier Train Station, Porter, 6.5%; Irish Goodbye, Foreign Stout, 8.3%). While 1/3 of ‘em are IPA & DIPA, the rest of the bunch rounds out the overall selection quite nicely. Now, normally, I would have drank the Montpelier Train Station Porter & Irish Goodbye Foreign Stout, but I strayed from my ways and went with the Retrograde Session IPA, The Doppler Effect IPA, & Venus Rising Imperial IPA. They were all mad tasty, with The Doppler Effect for the win!

The outer wall in two tone white over lime green bricky lowers up front, with a large logo piece and some framed medals below. Further back, there’s a sprawling looooooong lunar mural with a tethered beer sporting astronaut over the bar area. The inner wall in gray with a larger block lettering logo. And the front of the space is a wall of windows with dangling hop lamps and hanging plants. Concrete floors, drop ceiling with sunken spots over the bar, drop pan lamps over the seating there, and stung bulb lights over the penned seating.

8 rectangular tables up front off the entrance, and another 6 squared tables penned over there (me, pointing). Bar counter seating for 6 on one front corner wall and below the front windows to both sides of the door, 6 & 6. A single larger table to the rear, and nearly a dozen tables out front somewhat umbrella’d up.

Shirts mounted up there in the front corner off the door to the attached aforementioned homebrew supply store. A trio of dart boards to the rear, and a few pinball machines and Ms. Pac Man/Galaga mash up (no brewery pun intended) adjacent. Down the hallway finds a little brew room to the rear of the rear and barrels back there, too.

Basket of $1 snacks on the bar. I would like to become familiar with them. Or you can bring in your own damn food. I could do some time here as the beers are really damn good, but it’s early and there’s more to see in town and beyond…

Super chill and out of the way of the rest of the establishment beer destinations in Richmond. Good neighborhood vibe. Great selection with an emphasis on IPA variants. Prices are on point with half pours available. Crowlers to go at reasonable prices. Doppler Effect is a class act. All beers are textbook examples of clean fermentation. Must try if you are in the Richmond area. Slightly under the radar but it shouldn't be.

This is a very unassuming location and could otherwise be passed by without your phone pointing it out. The small storefront, along the even smaller thoroughfare of Lakeside Ave. would lead you to believe that its contents would also be small, simple and irrelevant...you would be misled. Beer quality is the uncontested priority number one by these folks who started as a destination for beer brewers not beer drinkers. Every beer on the list is out of this world and the vibe of the location feeds off their magical product.

Decent little place that has a small, 2bbl brewing setup, according to staff. Surprised they had fifteen beers on tap. Apparently they just opened up their taproom by moving the homebrew shop next door. The space does seem nice to offer to larger parties and even for a little inside cornhole or similar. There is a moderate and cozy outside, also.

The brewery offered a nice selection of beers from light to dark, covering about 6-8 styles. Unfortunately they didn’t really nail all these styles. Alnisr everything seemed a tad on the sweet side. I’d say there was a 50/50 split of enjoyable to not so much on our visit. Nothing was horrible, though the IPAs stood out as a tad above average. The higher ABV stood out as needing more work to dry them out.

The staff were friendly and informative. Crowlers were available if you found something you liked. Flight pours are individually priced, but no half pours.

Seemingly adventurous, I’d like to see some work on the non-IPAs. I’d love to try more of their beers without the extra sweetness I perceived. Soecifucslly, I actually thought their offerings with Belgian yeast had some potential.

Nice selection, solid quality, one of the better DIPAs I had in my time in RVA. I like the neighborhood/local vibe. Really nice to be able to just hang out in an unpretentious place. That it's part of a homebrew shop is a big part of the charm. I definitely recommend checking this place out.

I went last month during a weekday and this place is totally cool. A beer store and brewery combo! Not much in the way of food (bag of chips and tub of salsa basically---it's right next to VA BBQ if you're hungry), but you can watch them brew in the fishbowl-style room in the back, and the hoppy smell permeates throughout the building when they're working.

A lot of the beers are kinda rough but Venus Rising is one of the best beers I've ever had on the "RVA Brew Trail." I took a 32-oz crowler to go for like $9! Super laid back place that I very much recommend.

A homebrew shop with a little bar setup so not really a place designed to be a beer bar but more of a place you kill an hour or two during the afternoon (or to have something to drink while shopping for homebrew supplies). Service is adequate and friendly so can't complain, and while the beer selection is just eight of their own beers I must admit they make some good beers and the prices aren't bad at all. Worth the stop if you have free time and are in area.

Not as friendly as some other locations in town, but certainly a good get in / get out place. Enough of a selection to get you through the weekend boil with no problems.

This is my go to LHBS. From all grain to extract, this store has everything you need, even if you've never brewed before and want to get into it. The owner, Tony, is very knowledgable and easy going. He will take the time to answer any questions you may have and doesn't talk down to you like i've seen at other shops. We are lucky to have a store like this in Richmond. Also, it's nice to buy local instead or ordering online. Keep the money in the community!
