I'd rather drink and have a bite than battle I-5 traffic at rush hour. Selma's in Ladera Ranch is easier to approach than the Rancho Santa Margarita location, and it offers many of the same good qualities. A quaint, lively bar area during happy hour that is separated from the restaurant radiated a good feeling. Happy, well informed bartenders that took orders at a good pace further enchanced my experience.

And then there was the food and beer. I just ordered some homemade fried mozzarella for food, and it knocked the snot out of many fried cheese sticks I've had at numerous restaurants. The pizza is something to get as well, though this visit didn't see one. As for beer, 24-something taps with many American kegs, from Stone, Deschutes, Coronado, Bootlegger's, Drake's, Firestone, plus Cuvee des Jacobins and Lindeman's Framboise. About a dozen additonal beers from the bottle as well, from Wells & Young's, Lagunitas, Chimay, and Samuel Smith's. My Fresh Squeezed IPA was delicious and fresh despite standard shaker pint glassware.

For Chicago-styled pizza and beer, Selma's has you covered.
