so i was talking to this guy i knows. let's call him: grover. he sez the place to be is eulogy. i makes my way there and i was not disappointed.

this place is the anam cara or spuyten duyvil (so far as i could tell) of philly. maybe not the prettiest bar but just a crazy beer list and good food (yeah i didn't order anything and i know there's no food at the duyvil). but the beer list was crAzy. from the card the owner gave me "the greatest 200 beers you've never had."

now on to the more specific (if brief) stuff: cool old building in a funky neighborhood with a nice long bar and a few tables by the door. there was an upstairs but i don't recall going up there.

the beer list, as above, was crAzy. trust me on this one (or read a reviewer that goes less from the gut than i).

service was good (it helps when you are drinking with the stone crew and the owner of another brewery and you are a brewer in town for the craft beer convention).

One of the more established and long running places in Old City. This place was hip before the hipsters came into town. Great Imports, can get crowded quick, worth a stop.

Overwhelming bottle list, impressive taps, Belgian food specialties. Dark and mysterious atmosphere adds to the vibe. When in Philly, a must stop, right in the heart of town.

A lot like it's stablemate, Bierstube, this place is pretty noisy and draws a young (and on Saturday nights, wasted) crowd. Definitely a place devoted to beer but not really a Belgian beer standout. Head to Monk's.

I love this place! Food is amazing. Michele the bartender was super knowledgable and totally made the experience wonderful!

About as good as it gets...for example: several days post BCBS craziness, they were still selling bottles of both the original and barley wine to bar customers for enjoyment on-site or to-go.

Their rotating tap list is what makes this place awesome - just a great mix of beers from all over the world (with an expected focus on Belgian beers). Their bottle list is also the stuff dreams are made of - Cantillon is often on the list (for a price, but hey, it's an option).

All of the staff are super knowledgeable and actually love their craft.
